I've dusted off my Atari Falcon recently and connected up my CosmosEx (version 2). The features I am using are the shared networked drive, SD card and occassionally the translated drive (FAT32 formatted USB drive).
The features have been unstable, with errors occurring within minutes of being used (the configuration software drive, P: drive is the only one that consistently works). These are some of the issues occurring:
- the shared network drive, O: drive, will get "drive does not exist" or "BIOS error" (in Teradesk) after it was accessible previously.
- SD card isn't visible between reboots.
I reimaged the SD card with the image with this: ce_raspbian_stretch_2019-08-13 , but the instability remains. I've had to do full power cycles or reboots of both the Falcon and the CosmosEx.
One thing I noted was the "under voltage detected" error reported in the Raspbian Pi boot up scripts when booting up the CosmosEx. While I've got a 3A power supply powering it, I've read the the gauge of the USB cable can impact the amount of power that can be drawn. The under voltage issue can lead to instability - I've noticed that my USB keyboard that's connected to the Pi can stop responding (no power it seems as not of the numlock/scroll lock indicators are lit up or changing), but unplugging and plugging it back in will result in the keyboard being responsive again.
Could this under voltage issue be the cause of the instability over all? I've ordered a mini USB cable with a higher AWG rating as they're cheap and I have nothing lose...

Simple question : since how many times has your falcon been kept in a Cupboard ?
You can't dust out an old computer after 10 years of sleep or more and use it like you got it out from its package.
The under voltage detected cries out loud that the PSU in the Falcon is not doing its job....
Doing the maintenance is probably the way to go, are you used to maintenance of old machines or are you totally newbie or rookie on that aspect ?
Cheers !

Be careful - from my recent experiments with a RPi I have noticed that their official PSUs are a bit different from what you can purchase from other sellers. I'm lazy to look it up but it was something like theirs supply 3.1A (and RPi expects it) while the common standard is that 3A, i.e. leading to the undervoltage warnings.vattari wrote: Thu May 30, 2024 12:11 amWhile I've got a 3A power supply powering it, I've read the the gauge of the USB cable can impact the amount of power that can be drawn.
I have verified it myself, I had a quality 30 EUR USB charger with good specs and the warning disappeared only when I bought the official RPi PSU.

No rookie newbie here. I’ve recapped PSUs and replaced PSUs for my Ataris but in this case, I use the CosmosEx externally and it’s powered externally. The under voltage message appears when simply powering up the cosmosex when disconnected from the Falcon as well.dlfrsilver wrote: Thu May 30, 2024 6:44 am Simple question : since how many times has your falcon been kept in a Cupboard ?

Thanks Mikro. I’ll check this exact point. The CosmosEx has been hit and then consistent miss so I’m hoping this will resolve or reduce the I/O issues.mikro wrote: Thu May 30, 2024 6:52 amBe careful - from my recent experiments with a RPi I have noticed that their official PSUs are a bit different from what you can purchase from other sellers.
