AF website slowness

Post by viking272 »

Today I noticed the AF site is at times very sluggish and other times it's very responsive.
Initially I thought it was DNS and an expired domain, but no that is due next month:

Expires On: 2024-04-19

No other site is slow and it was on two devices I noticed it.
Anyone else notice this?

I noticed that, too; about an hour ago. Though at the moment the site seems to be responsive again. Maybe something is causing intermittent heavy load to the web server or database?

There was a problem with the ISP last night (or was it Monday night). Maybe it's linked? I did notice it myself and was about to let Dal know, then the speeds came back up to normal.

As of now the website is very sluggish again, with response times of about 30 seconds. Perhaps the web server is under heavy load? Someone would need to check the log files.

I've raised it with Dal as soon as I noticed it crawling. But now it seems to be back to normal.

Nope, I'm still seeing it giving several seconds delay on updating on some topics & near instant on others...

I'm waiting about 10 secs for page loads this evening.
Sounds like either high bandwidth in use or additional processes/resources being used either on the AF server or the host server.

Sigh .. the fix/speed increase was only temporary. I let Dal know at the first signs of it slowing down earlier tonight.

Just logged in this morning and it's back to normal. Assuming it was just a blip or, as suggested above, the ISP we host on was having a crap day.

Still slow for me. 20-30 seconds wait for every requested page.

This morning was okay, however just now it's taken about 20 seconds to pull up the "New Posts" page.

Is it just me or has the forum been quite sluggish and slow again for the past few days? Sometimes, it takes several seconds for a page to load.

There is a huge variance in the response time. Sometimes it's very snappy, sometimes extremely slow. Maybe you were just lucky to only observe fast response times. Still, I'm reasonably certain it is something on the server side, that would eventually affect everyone. As you can see, DNS lookup and TLS setup are quite fast. Most of the time is spent for the server to process the request. High load on the database, perhaps?

I have been experiencing the slowness for the last 3-4 days here (UK).

Do what the farmers do and just blame it on the weather

PS: This is a similar result with Firefox: Almost 8(!) seconds waiting for the server to process the HTTP request:

Similar results here, the response time varies between a few millisecs, and up to 10 sec

Same here, even at different times of the day. I don't know if the site is on shared hosting but a "noisy neighbour" may be affecting this site.
Still got, still working: Atari 4Mb STe, MegaST 2, 520STFM (x2), 2.5Mb STF, Atari 2600JR, Flashback 8 Gold.
Hardware: PC720B, Cumana CSA 354, Ultimate Ripper, Discovery Cartridge, Blitz Turbo, Synchro Express II (US and UK Versions).
