FS: Complete Falcon Setup

Post by djmitman »

I'm looking to sell my Falcon setup. It consists of a Falcon 030 with 14MB of RAM, VGA adapter, plus a CT63 board with a 68060 and 128 MB RAM installed. It also has a Supervidel card, an Ethernec expansion port network card, an Eiffel adapter (to connect PS/2 keyboard and mouse) plus an internal compact flash adapter with a 2GB CF card fitted. I do not have the original Atari Falcon mouse but I do have a PS/2 mouse with PEST fitted - or of course you can use it with the Eiffel adapter.
The CT63 was purchased 2nd hand but has not been fitted/ tested (I have tested the RAM which works fine)
The Eiffel, the Supervidel, and the CF adapter/ card are brand new and have never been used/ fitted.
The basic Falcon runs fine - but the internal battery is dead (I think there is a mod to the Eiffel to allow it to act as a clock?).
Is there any interest in the above here? I will post some pictures later this week - I'd prefer to sell here rather than E-bay - but not quite sure how that would work?

Sounds like you have a "dream set-up" with extra everything... :) I don't think there are so many rules to selling here (see this thread), basically just advertise a price and then exchange details like Paypal account / address etc. in PM with any potential buyer(s).

Keep in mind though that if you bought this set-up a while ago, prices may have gone up significantly since then, so don't accept the first offer you receive unless it's a good one. The old slogan "power without the price" doesn't really hold true anymore. If you want the power, you have to pay quite a hefty price. I'd say that market pricing for your items are something like:

Falcon ~€1500 (depending on its condition of course. There are ads asking much more on eBay and other places, but I don't think many of those get sold)
CT63 €300 (these are still being produced by Centuriontech, although there may be a waiting time)
68060 rev 6 CPU €500 (if earlier rev a couple of hundred less)
Supervidel no clue, but these are super rare as far as I know. Surely at least €500 and maybe much more?

In order to get the best market valuation it's of course better to use eBay. But if you sell to someone here of course the chances may be a bit higher that the machine will actually get used and not just locked away in some collector's storage cellar.

Considering that an empty Falcon shell was sold here for $950 just a few days ago I'd say that a complete Falcon would sell for a lot more than €1500.

Yes, of course you may be able to get more than that if you're lucky and find the right buyer. The person who bought the case must've "really wanted it", as was said in the other thread. Prices are volatile but there are several examples of Falcons sold during the past months on eBay with open bidding that ended up being sold for less than €1500. And a few which ended up being sold for more. If it's in pristine condition and includes all accessories etc. €2000 might be possible :) This is at least my feeling... Not trying to low ball djmitman or anything, rather the opposite.

A few years ago I sold my spare SuperVidel on Ebay in the United States.

It went for a little over $800.00 US dollars...I was shocked, considering
I originally paid well under $200 for it originally (new). 8O

Hi All
thanks for the replies - and the advice about pricing. I've added some pictures below:
Image
As stated above the supervidel card is a v2 card, never used or installed brand new from the developers.
Image
Picture of the falcon desktop showing a running machine
Image
CT63 card with 68060 CPU fitted. Note I purchased this from this forum a few years ago - again has never been used by me. It will also include a 128MB RAM stick.
Image
Picture of the keyboard - note it is a German keyboard. You can use a UK or US keyboard via the Eiffel interface.
Image
Side view of the Falcon.
Image
Front view of the falcon - note there is some yellowing.
Image
Picture of accessories including the Eiffel adapter (unused), VGA adapter (used only a couple of times - excellent condition) and a 2 GB CF card and IDE interface - both unused but the CF card is formatted for use in the Falcon.
falc-mouse.jpg
Picture of working PS/2 mouse - this is currently connected via a PeST interface which will be included in the package.
Any questions - please post by reply. Please make offers via DM - I am looking for offers around £2000 - based on the recent posts I think this is a reasonable offer.

A bit of background/ history:
Several years ago (i.e. over 20) I bought one of the last "new" Falcons to use as part of a music setup. I used it for a couple of years and then sold it to a guy in Birmingham (UK) complete with a licensed, legal copy of E-Magic. As always, seller regret set in a short while later and I started to look for a replacement for the Falcon I had stupidly parted with.
So, a few years later I decided to build my own version of a "souped-up" C-lab Falcon in a rack case so I set about buying the parts. I purchased a refurb Falcon from Germany, a CT63 card from this forum, a new Supervidel v2, a new Eiffel adapter, a new 2 GB CF card and IDE adapter, and finally a white 3U rack mount case to hold all the electronics.
Anyway, life happened and the old saying about the best-laid plans of mice and men held true and my Falcon and its various accouterments sat unused and unloved in various drawers and cupboards.
So a few days ago I decided that the whole setup really needed to go to a better home where it would find its true potential - so I advertised it here on the same forum where I sourced some of the key parts. I hope I have set a fair price that covers my costs without too much "price-gouging" - and I hope it goes to a good home where it can at least reach its potential.
Oh - and just in case you think that "seller regret" might set in again - I also have a Firebee that can assuage my Falcon cravings. ;)

Hi all

I notice there have been a lot of visitors but no offers as yet - I am happy to discuss offers just PM me. I'm also happy to break up the collection and sell parts separately - e.g. the supervidel card for example. As I said I would rather sell it here to a fan/ enthusiast rather than on E-Bay where fees, etc will make changes to the prices. Please PM me with any interest or ask questions here.
cheers

Hi all
so the supervidel board is now sold (thanks to Joska). I will break the remaining elements into two packages:
1/ The Falcon, which has 14 MB of RAM plus an internal IDE drive of approx 270 MB (this is working but is quite old now so probably better to replace sooner than later). Hence the "package" includes an IDE adapter and a 2 GB CF card - formatted for the Falcon - ready to go. This will create a faster and more reliable internal drive than the older 270 MB IDE drive. The "package" also includes the EIFFEL adapter - new and unused - which allows for an external PS/2 keyboard and Mouse to be used. It does not come with an original mouse but it has a compatible mouse with a PeST adapter - remove the adapter and it can also be used with the EIFFEL interface :). The "package" also includes a Falcon to VGA adapter and an EtherNEC adapter (including the required ISA network card). I'd like offers of around £1300 for this "package".
2/ The second package consists of a CT63 expansion card with a 68060 CPU fitted with a Fan and 128 MB of compatible RAM. This board has not been used by me and was purchased on this forum a few years ago - you can search back and find the discussions. I'm looking for offers of around £400 for this package.
If you need any more information you can post a question here or PM me. You can also PM with any offers.
Thanks all - DJM
