SoundLab

Post by CosmicPuppet »

Hi,

I have SoundLab demo version running on top of EmuTOS 1.0 and it's great. Since the audio comes through my VGA adapter and the program doesn't mind my Notator Dongle being plugged in.

Does anyone know where I can purchase the full version of this program?

I'm running a 4MB STFM.

Thanks.

Thanks, this is the one I'm using, which keeps randomly throwing up the shareware window asking me to register. I would love to register, but I doubt the address is still good.

I've emailed what I think is the developer's twitter page.

He has a website (assuming this is him)

I contacted Mr. Jones a while back about source code to one of his other projects, if I recall it was his MemWatch application. He basically wrote back all his stuff was lost. However, don't let that stop you, maybe he has found it.

Thanks, that's good to know. I'll lever my expectations accordingly. :D

Worth a shot. As long as I try I don't mind failing. :)

Mr. Jones just responded to my message saying that he doesn't have access to any of that stuff anymore.

Does anyone have an archive of the abandoned projects page from yonder year? I could swear this was on that site?

Cheers! I must have been thinking of ' sam edit '

LP, Ironic that your user-id ( shown on quoting) is '525' when we are talking sample things, given that is the name of a sample converter prog!

You can always try the Shareware version which came on ST Format 41. I remember playing around with this version for years, and I don't recall any Shareware pop up. However this is version 1.0, and there were some limitations as it was of course un-registered, Preferences for example, but the Loading, Saving and general Editing of samples are not limited if I recall.

http://www.stformat.com/stf41/index.html

Coverdisk 41a as an ST image: http://stos.atari.st/stf.htm

Coverdisk 41a as an MSA image: https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/STF/index.htm

JAY MSA should handle both images and extracting them back to their original format. I quickly checked the above on Hatari as it has been a while, appears to be OK, however have a play.

Kind regards

I empathise, it's why I have mixed feelings about disk images, and using the same for preservation! I appreciate why they exist with regards to emulation, but over the years they have introduced painful side effects when "inflating" back to their original state. However .ST and .MSA are generally the easier to deal with.

That said I played with the .ST earlier today to check, albeit as the image, try using JAY MSA as opposed to MSA, the JAY MSA archiver here: http://jaysoft.atariportal.cz/. It's a more versatile version.

There are other ways, however failing the above I have the original disk somewhere, although I think my coverdisks are still at my parents.

If you get stuck, let me know!

Hmmm, not sure why you are experiencing difficulty!

Some useful info, of course make sure you unzip any Atari file which is zipped first, either on your PC/Mac or on your Atari using STZIP. 2 useful tools I would say are quite valuable if using floppies, and grabbing software which are now imaged more often than not off the "global hyper mega net", are JAY MSA and STZIP. JAY MSA should handle any usual .ST images and .MSA compressed files, and of course STZIP which allows you to unzip files on your Atari. You will sometimes come across .STX images, which are more of a pain, but can be inflated back to their original state using an emulator such as Steem, or on the Mac, Hatari.

So I happened to use the .ST version of Sound Lab 1.0 off the links I previously mentioned, unzipped it, and used JAY MSA to inflate Sound Lab. If inflating .ST images in JAY MSA, when selecting the file change the default from *.MS? to *.*, it will allow all image files to be seen, not just MSA. Your files within the .ST image will then be viewable by JAY MSA as it can handle .ST, click on the file you want to inflate, in this instance Sound Lab, and that should do it.

Link to STZIP: https://sites.google.com/site/stessenti ... ools/stzip

Here is Sound Lab from the ST Format 41 coverdisk zipped up.

Lastly, a handy tool for converting sample file formats is 525. A few versions here which you should be able to extract on your PC from the LZH compressed versions: http://atari.music.free.fr/main.php?UMICH%20Sound. If not, zipped up and attached just in case.

Found another copy of v1.1 (slab11.lzh), perhaps the original archive.
Also found v1.11 updater (slupd111.lzh), a bug related to wav was fixed.
http://www.umich.edu/~archive/atari/Sound/

v1.11 without the need of an updater.

Enjoy.

So..Thanks to the help I've received here I've managed to get an even further update. It was missing the manuals and the update info, so I've included them in this zip folder.

I've also included a screenshot of the intro page.

Does anyone know who looks after the Atari ST - Essential software page?

https://sites.google.com/site/stessential/

It would be nice to get this updated. It's still the shareware version, but has support for wav extensions and has a bug fix for that feature.

That's amazing thanks!

While all this has been going on I found an even later version with a bug fix for the .wav function. It's Sound Lab 1.11

Any chance you can have a look at this one too?

Really impressive work!

P.S. I've spoken to Damien Jones on his Twitter and he no longer has access to any of the files. This means he is unable to provide registered versions of the software.
