GamebaseST alive & kicking
A few months ago I restarted GamebaseST on my own to see if I still had the enthusiasm to take it forward, well, after 5 months of development on it I'm making this post to confirm it. GamebaseST really was stuck in the past and desperately needed updating. It's interface was not the latest anymore and simply updating it threw a few thing off and needed correcting in every single game entry. If you have Windows 8 then hard disk games don't work since pkunzip will not run on a 64-bit operating system. The latest versions of STeem SSE also needed adding to replace the 10 year old v3.2. All in all quite a lot to do before you can even start to add games again.
So far this is what I have done
* The GamebaseST interface has been updated to latest version and work started to correct and add data to new fields.
* PKunzip replaced with command line version of 7zip, the GEMUS script was updated and now hard disk games work again in Windows 8
* STeem SSE added and it works much better than 3.2, for example, pasti images auto mount and run properly unlike before.
* Replaced the pasti.dll with nag free one found on this site.
*Over 100 games have also been added when I wanted a break from the above stuff
I have also started removing pasti images from the main file list and putting them in the extras section. It makes no sense to me too have whole separate entry when a pasti image should be classed as another version of the game. For example ithe image below shows the entry for Goldrunner (well i would pick that one), the pasti image is now shown in the all new extras column as 'Original ST Disk'. It runs perfectly well from there since it gets auto mounted properly by SYeem SSE, unlike with v3.2 when the user had to manually mount the pasti image.
Anyway, that is about it for now, speak to you all again very soon!

Well, I hope that this time you (people working on it) will listen more to error reports and suggestions.
First suggestion: run spell checker on your post
Sorry, but there is really too much of it.

Famous Schrodinger's cat hypothetical experiment says that cat is dead or alive until we open box and see condition of poor animal, which deserved better logic. Cat is always in some certain state - regardless from is observer able or not to see what the state is.

I hope my game aka ics 2 help fill gaps. About pasti is connected to originals. But isnt the hacked and extras is more nice when it comes to selection.

Re: GamebaseST alive & kicking
Thanks! Just like to say what an incredible job you and your team have done with AtariMania, it is by far the premiere site for the ST on the web at the moment. I refer to all the time to check my data and have started linking individual games in GBST to the games entry in AtariMania. The only thing I would change (if I was you) is to merge the different versions of the same title into one database entry and make a note of them there, users should be able get all the data for a title from a single page entry!Marakatti wrote:Welcome back Goldrunner

Thank you, nice to hear that

Yes i know it's annoying but unfortunately i can't touch the database structureThe only thing I would change (if I was you) is to merge the different versions of the same title into one database entry and make a note of them there, users should be able get all the data for a title from a single page entry!

Re: GamebaseST alive & kicking
We didn't have such option available when the database was started. Now we have it but it's not number one priority to start converting old scans to PDF-files. Most important thing is to make the database accurate. After that it's time for other thingsGoldrunner wrote:BTW, Is there a reson why your not offering manuals in PDF format?

Registered with AtariMania a week ago but still had no email to confirm my registeration. I am eager to help your project but first I need a way of accessing your forum so I can post corrections or suggestions. I also have a huge amount of box scans, disk scans, adverts, manuals, etc that you could use to make the site even better!Stefan jL wrote:HereGoldrunner wrote: is there somewhere iI can easily post if I come across corrections for your databasehttp://www.atarimania.com/atari_forum/index.php

I see you already did. Huge thanks for supporting what we do. I really appreciate it a lot
Don't worry if it takes some time to add your corrections and additions as we are sometimes busy with other things. We are slowly working on everything people have sent us.

It runs perfectly well from there since it gets auto mounted properly by SYeem SSE, unlike with v3.2 when the user had to manually mount the pasti image.
Anyway, that is about it for now, speak to you all again very soon!
I am new to the forum so I apologize if this is a silly/stupid question. WHere does one obtain the new pasti.dll and pKunzip files?
thank you

update
found the new pasti.dll file and replaced the pkunzip with 7zip
thanks
another question: what are "PASTI ORIGINALS" game version?
thanks
edit: one more question
is there a command line "command" that will load the games that have an associated (HD)zip? thanks

Re: GamebaseST alive & kicking
Just a quick update!
GamebaseST is progressing very well, it is now at v3.5d, which (if you understand my version numbers) means 400 games have been added since the last public release. I should be more, but I have ended up restructing almost everything to make it more accessible for users. I also decided to add all game demos to the database, the main source of which are magazine coverdisks. I can think of nothing better that allowing the user to launch a demo and read the relevant page in the magazine it came from, all with just two clicks of the mouse.
