Band In A box for the Atari st

Hi I was totally amazed to come across a version of Band In A Box on Ebay which I quickly bought ,and not just any old Band In A BOX but one for the ST Atari and this was a caption of what it read very best wishes Brian.


Style-generation software Band-In-A-Box is one of many still-thriving music programs that started life on the Atari. These days, it's very much at home in the latest Mac- and PC-based studios, as Vic Lennard and Martin Walker discover.

Way back in August 1991, I concluded that the original Atari ST version of the Band-In-A-Box auto-accompaniment program was "cheaper than almost any ST sequencer but with facilities belying the price" in a review appearing in the now-defunct ST Format. It offered three-part accompaniment, the facility to enter lyrics, a print-out capability and MIDI File compatibility, along with incredible ease of use.


I already own BB for the pc so know how useful it is for composing songs so this should be what I am looking for if it will work ok with my Atari STE with 4mb of ram so heres hoping Brian.

My first BIB was version 4. Later purchased version 5 as well. Don't remember my packaging being as fancy as what you're showing. Just very recently purchased BIB 2014 for the PC. ST was advertised as power without the price. Part of that meant midi I/O/T. So my 1040ST was my first computer. A Roland D20 soon followed. I wasn't in a band or ever part of one so BIB sort of made me into a one man band. Still enjoy playing with this program to this day. In the early years of PG music, you could get midi fake books (disks which had fair reproductions of popular songs on them) and plug them into BIB. If you were a good enough musician (I'm not) you could create your own versions of those songs. They don't really make good fakebooks anymore. Guess the DMCA put an end to that. Still though have a lot of fond memories of this program. Maybe even more amazing is that PG music is still very much alive after all these years.

I bought the same thing on Ebay in the summer of 2011 and the whole presentation is lush, plus the software is excellent and always has been. My box is in nice condition too.

Hi I am so pleased some one else has bought and used this package ,as I cant wait to try it out on my Atari ste ,I have used it for many years on my pc and recorded a song called by scarrabri which is on reverbnation in there charts at number 7 and the backing track was composed on Band In The Box 12 so I know the potential of this software and hope I can produce some thing on the Atari which would make my day and give me a real buz my very best wishes Brian

Thanks for your reply and I too have to say BB is an excellent piece of software having used it for years but never on my pride and joy my Atari STE so I am hoping it wont disappoint and a lot of enjoyment can be found as there is nothing like a good backing band ,my very best wishes Brian.

Hi. I've recently bought that same Band In A Box v 5.2 from ebay. I notice that the first version on the PC was version 7.

I can't find any version 6.

I'm curious if anyone knows why there is no version 6, or is there?

I managed to get a disk of style files, but not the actual program!

STX files are disk images that include the original copy protection. They can be used with an ST emulator (STeem SSE, Hatari) and, I think, some floppy emulators (HxC, Gotek?).

As far as I know, you can’t simply copy this file to a floppy disk and expect it to work.

My music teacher gave me a copy of this plus the cubase 2 mca crack. It was really useful for practising melodies and solos.

Is far as I know the last version for Atari was 5.4. It comes with four floppy disks:a program disk, 2 style and demo disks (.sty, .sg*) and a song disk (.mg*)

I had a think...I put together some free band in a box files I found around the internet (unfortunately I've forgotten where and can't find them in my bookmarks)

I've organised them all in a tidy fashion.

Just double checked the stuff that came on the original disks and none of this stuff is on there.

I've put them all on my SD card together.

I've checked all the disks to make sure I'm not distributing copyrighted stuff.
