Damn it .. dead PSU (now working!)

I was talking to Brume earlier and he gave me the impetus to dig out the Kryoflux and get it all set up again.

However, after an hour of puzzlement, I've come to the conclusion that the PSU is a duffer.

Has anyone had any similar luck replacing the Kryoflux PSU with a cheap eBay one (purely as a temporary measure)?

Took a gamble and ordered one. At least this way I will hopefully be able to make a start on the non-original disks. Forgot I had *so* many PD disks/demos/source code.

Interesting ... guess what also had problem powering my Floppy Drive ...
For sometime I had the following setup: inside an old pc I have placed a floppy drive powered by the PC and connected it to my KryoFlux board

Then came my SuperCard Pro so I kept my PC open and connected the drive to KF or SCP not very practical ...

So I decided to go for a more practical setup first I found a second drive so each board has its own drive but came the problem of the power supply for the drives.
With the SCP board I was able to connect the 5v of the drive directly on the SCP board and have the board + the drive powered directly by the USB connection (500 mA)
Then I tried the same with the KF board but I could not make it work reliably (see http://forum.kryoflux.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=782)

Finally I have found a dead external HDD the disk was dead but not the power supply
So I took a FD/HDD cage that I have cut from an old pc placed this on top of the dead external HDD and connected the two floppy drives to this power supply.

Then using double sided tape I have placed the two enemy cards on top of the upper floppy ...

By the way I forgot to mention that for the 3.5 drive you do NOT need the 12V only the 5V is used so you could go for a simpler PSU but I like the one you have found.

Mine is sat on top of an old 5.25" caddy. Inside the caddy is a combination 5.25" and 3.5" drive. I've also got a 3" drive to use with it as I've got an old Amstrad 6128 in one of the cupboards and that's got a lot of originals and data discs that need backing up.

I brought 2 of those PSU's a couple years ago, I couldn't use them as the mains plug wouldn't physically fit correctly in the connector So if its the normal 3 pin plugs on it, if its a sloppy fit then be careful... I did buy another similar type and the plug wouldn't physically fit, the socket was a fraction to small.. Hopefully there are better now though.

You mean the cables that plug to the wall?
I would have thought they come with the PSU

Not the wall plug, the "kettle" style plug which plugs into the PSU. I have had one PSU with a sloppy fit that it arced so bad it blew the PSU up, then at some point after I had the problem where the plug would not physically fit into the PSU. They were both those small types from what I remember. If Mike says there fit OK then I will probably get one too

I tried a spare "kettle" lead with my drives. No juice so that's why I've ordered the replacement PSU plus some extra molex leads to play safe

New PSU arrived today (plus some spare molex floppy power leads as I'd broken the other two!) and it's all working fine.

Just trying out "normal" disks first and then will start on the "big box of loose original disks that I really should have started on last year before I moved house"

Oddly enough I've just created a Kryoflux folder in one of my cloud accounts. Uploading the MFM + Stream images I did last year first but currently imaging up Hewson's Premier Collection 2 (Backlash, Mercenary, Custodian & Elimibator).
