Kryoflux IPF files to download (part 1)

As this lovely piece of hardware is going to get more and more queries from purchasers who want to help preserve their Atari ST disks, I thought it best to create this new sub-forum.

As a gift to all the lucky owners of this kit, here's a link to download some 70+ titles (some single-disk, some multi-disk) which can all be written back to floppy disks and you'll end up with a perfect copy of the original.

I'll add more upload links as well as sort out a newsgroup NZB at some point today.

I can't say where I acquired these files from but it's from someone who knows someone who owns a Kryoflux and they wanted these IPF files spread around a bit more. As the subject matter hints at, these are just the first batch. More to follow.

Maybe it will kickstart a few more Kryoflux cards bought and therefore mean more original disks dumped - it can only be a good thing

EDIT: Ok, just downloaded... and the title also says it. I am not sure if this is helpful, these files are not public domain and seem to come from a group of contributors that dumped these initially (which is why they were given these images).

Who chose to share them with their fellow owners to help them preserve their original disks?

I believe that personal backups of content protected media which you own are now legal in the EU?

@Mr Vince - someone found the forum and pointed me to a location where I could get the files. I grabbed them and, to save identifying the donor, I've uploaded them elsewhere.

Hope this wasn't the wrong thing to do as the person donating the files wants more disks duplicated and distributed. We're all in this for our love of the ST

You know we're picky about respecting copyright and don't want to promote piracy (yes, it's old software, but there's a 70 year grace period after the authors death so...). What people do in private is a different thing but this is... megaupload.com... *cough*

Backups are not so easy to answer. You might speak of format shifting here (like making an MP3 from a CD you bought - here you are transferring an original disk to your harddrive into an image file). The problem could be the source again (some countries have a law that basically says that a copy is ok, as long as it's not coming from an illegal source). Megaupload is not known to its good reputation regarding copyright.

Interesting debate that leads to few questions to MrVince:

1) Are the above IPF images correct? Your comment was not clear?

2) As you know I have probably about 300 FD of non boxed original(?) games + around (?) 100++ boxed original games + others programs - that I wanted to image and potentially share

The idea was to provide them as torrent (I think this is what they have done for Amiga) under an dummy name.

I think the message from SPS is a bit ambiguous:
- IPF images of games should not be publicly published as they violate copyrights
- Buy KryoFlux, creates images, and use IPF as the preservation format by providing support in Steem / Hatari

... I guess you see what I mean ... and I guess you cannot give an official answer ... but what are we (am I) suppose to do ?
I can probably devote some of my time to image games as long as it is useful for the community but I am personally not very interested in games and preserving them (apart from a small bunch of selected one for which I already have backups) for me or grand-children

I'm sorting out some proper hosting. And, when I've got a bit more spare time, all files will go onto the newsgroups which equals 3 years' potential storage. TOSEC distribute (or someone distributes the files for TOSEC) on the newsgroups too

I think you understand that I (we) can't recommend or support this... It's your decision, your risk.

No, it's not. Legitimate contributors get access to the games (e.g. by uploading a dump or by delivering proof in case an IPF already exists). What they do with the images, is their decision. Again, I can't recommend putting them up on Megaupload, because this gives everything hosted there a bitter taste. We do give images to archives and museums and we of course do realize people do exchange them in private groups or at parties, whatever. Again, Megaupload (like other services like Rapidshare) just feels wrong.

This is not our forums, so you are of course to do whatever you like.

Just saw this... IPFs don't cost you EUR 90,-... You can still use the Amiga dumping solution if you have to. That's just a software, but it is pretty demanding in regard to hardware requirements.

You Atari guys are well organised. The Amiga collectors partially chose to not share, but it seems a litle different here.

Again, I can't endorse this (for legal reasons) but... astonishing.

I would look at IPF support in Steem (no result promised), but I need at least some images to test.

I don't want to be heavy but if no games are available as IPF, it's useless to support the feature.

There are 4 x .ZIP files I'm trying to get onto my website - but due to an update I can't upload certain files for some reason. Even rejects PDF files when there's already a PDF up there.

The .ZIP files are the contents of the huge torrent of IPF files released a few weeks ago now. I just separated out the Atari ST ones.

From the huge release there are two directories one is called upload (302 releases not yet confirmed) and apparently contains the Atari files. The other one is called download (2669 items) but I am not sure that it contains any Atari files?
How did you sort the Atari files ?

while looking for some IPF files, I found the no-intro list, available through their dat-o-matic database http://www.no-intro.org/
The names of the IPF files are slightly different, but they're the same in the end.

Most sites hosting thoses IPF files seem gone, but I finally found one archive on http://theisozone.com/dl-start/42578/1/ that contains 304 IPF files from 25-02-2012 (this means only Stone Age is missing from the official Atari ST list on http://www.softpres.org/games). Get your copy while they're here

For info looks like IPF are not generated very quickly! I have submitted stream files about one year ago and I have not yet seen any feedback

Hi, sorry I am new to .ipf files and kryoflux... I am trying to write one of the .ipf images I downloaded from archive.org (listed above)... I am simply using wildewutz to try and write the image. After the write is completed it does not seem to work in my 1040 STE (just kind of hangs the system). I did try 2 different floppy drives (that are supposed to work per the kryoflux forum)

Is there something I am missing about writing Atari ST images back to floppy with kryoflux? any help would greatly be appreciated

Which games are you writing to floppy disk? Have you confirmed that they work with the STE? Some games only run on specific versions of TOS.
