Wiki *was* set to Read Only... now back to normal
All,
The wiki is up and running however there's some data missing. Silver messaged me earlier and it turns out that this is because the Wiki was moved in 2009 due to some technical problems with the number of sessions 250host allowed to SQL on the same domain.
The last Up-to-date wiki is stuck in the 'cloud' somewhere until such a time someone purchases 250host. At that point we can get at the data again. This also explains why I couldn't find it in the backup!
Soooo - the Wiki database that is currently online is essentially a backup that Silver left on the server back in 2009 when he migrated the Wiki over to the other 250host account he had.
In light of this, I have modified the configuration so that no edits (including article creations) can be made by anyone for the time being.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

It's better than having no Wiki at all! Good job for bringing online what is still there!

Re: Wiki currently set to Read Only...
It's looking like we're in for a long wait for the Wiki...
Brian has not found a buyer for his business and has failed to sell it on ebay (see here)
It's taken quite a long time to get nowhere and I'm now very glad I decided not to wait to get the forum back!!
So, I think we're going to need to suffer some pain, make the Wiki live again and see if we can collectively fix it back up again...
Agreed?

Suits me .. got a few days off planned for next week so will use the time off to help with the Wiki whilst making images of some C64 disks via a Windows 98 laptop

Main site: www.mug-uk.co.uk - digging up bits from my past: Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (ripping guides). I host a C64 Radio Show for a mate, Max Hall via www.chipsidshow.co.uk
I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in for Word 2007 upwards. A toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: mikestoolbox.co.uk

Re: Wiki currently set to Read Only...
hmmm.... USD 2 grand to get the domain name plus the bad publicity and mud associate with it.
Probably not worth the effort by anyone.
Irony is that previously on webhosting forum, there were several interested people.... guess they wanted it for free.

The images on the Wiki seem to be missing.
Any chance we can get back the Atari STE 2.06 TOS ROM upgrade jumper pictures?

Can be done, just click the 'move' tab on any article.wongck wrote:Yeah, how about changing the subject title....Dal wrote:Wiki has now been unlocked. Let me know if you need anything else...![]()

When I tested it just now, there was a fault, but I've fixed that in the database now, should be fine. There may be some bugs due to the version of the MediaWiki database being older than the web application. Please report any errors to me if you spot any.

Re: Wiki *was* set to Read Only... now back to normal
I'm just back from a long time away from atari-forum and the wiki, noticed all the images gone! Thought I'd search the forums for an explanation before asking anyone about it... so this is the explanation! Bummer. Companies should never hodl users data to ransom like this
I can't even remember all of the images I uploaded that are gone now.
On another topic, I have a different username on the wiki to here. My uname there is Tompee ... could anyone do a password reset for me? OR is the wiki now using the same credentials database as the forum? (ir "tompee" is gone!)

It should now be using the same credentials as you have on here Ragstaff.

Re: Wiki *was* set to Read Only... now back to normal
Silver Surfer managed to get the wiki back from 250host and it has been uploaded to the backend. In the meantime a lot of work has been done to bring the current wiki up to scratch. I'm not too well ATM but once I'm back to normal, I'll set up the one SS uploaded as read only so that we can pull the articles of interest out and commit them to the current wiki.

Re: Wiki *was* set to Read Only... now back to normal
I can see a lot of work has gone into the wiki since I last was around, yes. Nice going everyone.
When I used to revert and ban spammers I was checking the wiki quite regularly and there wasn't much activity then (through 2009), so hopefully there have not been too many new articles or edits of value... because it will be a real pain to find them and merge them.
It would be good to get all the pictures back though. Not sure how we'd go about that aside from the bruteforce, "check-every-article" method!

You do not have to, just go over to the special page, gallery of new files http://www.atari-forum.com/wiki/index.p ... l:NewFiles and you can see all the pictures in the system, if you go back enough.Ragstaff wrote: It would be good to get all the pictures back though. Re: Wiki *was* set to Read Only... now back to normal
The last edit was 29 May 2009... so everything after 29 May 2009 and 3 April 2011, the day Dal got the wiki back, was lost in the sudden shutdown.Ragstaff wrote: When I used to revert and ban spammers I was checking the wiki quite regularly and there wasn't much activity then (through 2009), so hopefully there have not been too many new articles or edits of value... because it will be a real pain to find them and merge them.
I guess the wiki database available from the backup but images are I think on the file system, so they were not included in the db backup.

If you have some wiki pages and pictures, I can help put/merge them in. The wiki structure have change a fair bit and I hope it looks OK.

Re: Wiki *was* set to Read Only... now back to normal
We can systematically do this byDal wrote:Silver Surfer managed to get the wiki back from 250host and it has been uploaded to the backend. I'm not too well ATM but once I'm back to normal, I'll set up the one SS uploaded as read only so that we can pull the articles of interest out and commit them to the current wiki.
1. marking the pages that are in SS version with the current wiki.
2. after a review, we delete those marked pages.
3. merge the remaining pages.
There are only 838 articles in the current wiki, if one check 10 pages a day, that takes 3 months. If 2-3 person work on, it will take 1 month.

Re: Wiki *was* set to Read Only... now back to normal
I can see you have done a lot of work, wongck. The wiki is looking very nice.
I see what you mean about the "newfile" special page, that's one way we could see what images need to be taken from the old wiki.
Re: the losses after 2009, ahh, that sucks
I couldn't remember when I was last active here and I assumed it was May 2009 by looking at my contributions page, but now I see my edits probably stop in May 2009 because that's where we lost the wiki! Oh well....
