REQ: NEO and Spectrum 512 Pictures in Original Formats

Post by mrnukem »

Hello all,

I am trying to collect as many NEO and Spectrum 512 photos for an original Atari ST. I see many in the gallery here converted to more modern formats. I have been looking on various sites and FTP's, even Telnet BBS's but have had limited success.

Is there an archive somewhere of photos or would any kind folks be willing to attach what you have in a zip file to replies in this thread?

Thank you

I have got 30 Mb worth of SPU, SPC, SPS and SPX files (599 files). There are a lot of duplicates in them (most of the SPC are also converted to SPS).
155 NEO chrome files (or maybe more interesting, 788 Degas/Neochrome files). I think this is a bit too much to dump in this forum. If someone is willing to supply some space I am happy to share my collection with all Atari ST picture files I have found.

Zip them up and Rapidshare/DepositFiles them?

Rapidshare would be great. I have a premium account so if you upload them I will also host them and post links back here for others to use. They will not be removed since I host under my premium account. If anyone else posts on Rapidshare I will do the same with any collections posted.

Many thanks!

I'm currently going through the 700 disks that Rich uploaded. I'm making detailed notes on what's on every disk. So far I've found a lot of disks full of .neo, .pi1, .pc1, .tny, .spc and .spx files. Some are very nice pictures too. I'll make the list available when I've finished. At the moment I'm only up to disk 150, so it'll be a while yet. Aiming to do 75-100 a day.

Well after looking through thousdands of pictures- I'm happy to have found some of my favorite 16 color art I lost. On a side note, I'm amazed at how many "ugly" pictures were demonstrated on the ST. The digitizers and software editors really didnt do Spectrum 512 justice. That's probably why some of the best pictures were taken from the likes of Amiga. Maybe because Digiview was better than computer eyes? Or everyone just assumed the Amiga HAM6 was better and never gave Spectrum 512 a chance? Duno. But so so many pictures looked just plain awful. Well I'm going to continue to demonstrate some great Spectrum 512 and Photochrome pictures that could be displayed on the orginal 512 color ST computers. =)

Thank you so much for putting all of those pictures on Rapidshare.

I have most of my Spectrum 512 files here :
http://dahstra.rksmithfamily.net/spectrum/

I have converted my 16 color images to png. The Spectrums were converted to SPS and are provided in ZIPs.

Thanks to those sharing their collections. Lets see if I can get 7z format to work. :|

OK this is REALLY annoying, how the hell do you view the NEO and Degas pics on a Windows PC....googling for half an hour produced one result which has no NEO plugins for download (xnview).

This is pathetic!

What's wrong with the netpbm suite?

I installed it on my Mac with fink, and it seems you can get an installer for Windows at that link. Then you can do something like:

Code: Select all

$ neotoppm gianna.neo | ppmtopi1 > gianna.pi1
$ neotoppm gianna.neo | pnmtopng > gianna.png
tá'n poc ar buile!
