New Wiki Table Creation tool (Excel-based)

Post by Mug UK »

Here's my replacement for my VBScript based Wiki Table tool which, as those of you who used it previously, knew it would only create an empty table for you to paste onto the Wiki and then you'd have to fill in the gaps by hand.

Well, not any more!

Use this version and enter your text information into a worksheet (I've given some examples inside the spreadsheet) and, when you're ready to export the table(s), click on the Instructions tab. Then click the button which will start the GUI. Select the worksheet you want to export (you can only do one at a time .. but this is only v0.1!) and click the Go button.

By default the file is saved in the same folder as the spreadsheet - I'll add proper file-selection if it's required by you.

It's been tested on Excel 2000, 2003 & 2007 - but you need to enable the macros in Office 2007 which the help file can tell you how to do. Flummoxed me at first as even though I enabled the macros it wouldn't work until I'd quit Excel 2007 and then re-loaded the program.

So please go ahead, test and destroy and give me some feedback. I'll be working on adding the colours and general bold/italic detection routine into the code for the next version.

Enjoy and I hope it means more pages get added to the Wiki - I've already converted a few pages that were using ASCII style tables into Wiki tables :)

Nice work Mug. (says I, posting a year afterwards!).

Tools for making tables are very useful things! I spent a lot of time trying convert one of the hardware register listing files to a wiki table, but as you can see I didn't finish!

When I'm on a machine with MS Office, I'll definitely play with this!

Welcome back Ragstaff and nice one on that extra long table! Halfway there is better than nowhere at all! :)
