When it's officially released by Goldrunner .. the master copy will be sent to me so that I can make up some extra copies for him as I got the equipment to run off several copies at a time.

Then I assume they'll be available off his site or some other arrangement to be sorted out.
Main site: www.mug-uk.co.uk - digging up bits from my past: Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (ripping guides). I host a C64 Radio Show for a mate, Max Hall via www.chipsidshow.co.uk

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in for Word 2007 upwards. A toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: mikestoolbox.co.uk

Hi Heavy Stylus

I have decided not to give any precise release date or even hint at one since every time I do something happens  There is few things that need to come together first including the DVD cover, the AitpaSTi archive needs adding, a setup program needs to done, etc, etc.

An obvious change for a Gamebase ST logo is to replace the letter 'M' in the word 'GAMEBASE' with an ST Fuji. This would work well.

Rumour also has it (**) that regular forum members will be given a limited edition (numbered) gold disc which has their nick stamped on it :) .

(**) that would be the rumour I'm starting now

Update

Post by daeghnao »

Have tidied things up, started on the back and composed things together. Master file is 2.5mb, but it looks so lush :) Still to do:
  • Proper logo
    Better main ST image
    Better GamebaseST screenshots
Mess about with contrast in various places
Finish blurbs and resize rboxes appropriately
Definitely more than halfway finished though...

Cool.

Looks alright to me, but I definately think GAMEBASE ST needs to have a proper logo and not just a text-title... Bring on the fuji!

It's looking better and better, truly great work daeghnao :D

As for the logo I really don't know, maybe the m changing to the fuji as already suggested in the thread. It needs someone with more skill than me at this type of thing. What about the ST badge on the computer itself being used with say '520 ST' replaced with GamebaseST.

Logo

Post by daeghnao »

Here's about an hour's work on logo stuff - the ST's 'S' is a right pain :? Looks pretty tidy, though.

Hi daeghnao

That's very impressive work in just half an hour an hour :) I like the idea of the badge from the ST being used for the basic design and also the Fuji before at the start, don't think it would work anyway replacing the m with it. I look forward to seeing it again after some more of your skills are applied to it :D

A proper logo at last for GamebaseST :!:

Well, other than colours, sizes and so on, that logo is pretty much done. I might try a different method of turning the PDF into a bitmap, maybe I can get some anti-aliasing out of it. Let me know if there are specific colours you want, and what size(s) of bitmap you need.

Hi daeghnao

Would it be possible to give the Fuji and the ST on the logo a kind of raised look with a silvery metalic effect, this would match more closely to the original badge (see attached). Maybe the bevel effect could also work on the outer edge also, but not to sure if it would look better or not! The colours are quite close maybe a couple of shades down on the blue.

Many thanks for your continued hard work on this :D

Easier to do that in bitmap, what's the biggest size this needs to be at? I'll render it out at that size as a basis then. Actually, the size I use on the cover is probably going to be the biggest in terms of pixels, thinking about it... What size would we want there? 10mm high? 15?

Hmm, not sure I understand you here  The logo should be main area of focus on the cover maybe similiar in proportion to the C64 one. They have used the rainbow effect to grab the attention and have just noticed they have used beveling on the 64 part of it. The rainbow effect on the C64 logo it the main thing that grabs the attention, but this would not work for us.

The best thing of all would be to have the logo look at close as possible to the original badge, that way when people glance at it they know instantly it's based on the Atari ST.

Hope this helps :?:

In case anyone's worried/wondering - I haven't totally disappeared, but I am slightly busy as I was forced to move house. As soon as I get a desk, I can set up the computer and finish off the logo (really only needs the shiny grooves putting on), followed by finalising the old cover design. The cover itself needs to be produced at roughly the same time as the database release, as the numbers need to accurately reflect the content.

So long as it's included on the final master disc, people can print off your artwork for their own DVD slip case etc.

Take your time as I don't think GR is rushing to get the release out - maybe a demo of it @ Jagfest 2006 perhaps :)

As muggy said, please take your time since I have another ongoing project for the ST that is taking all my time at the moment. I'm not telling what this is but its very big and it should be here on Christmas eve 2006

As soon as my niece finishes school for the term (next week), I'll put her to work to design a DVD cover. She's already done covers for me for other projects.
