Oh! I'm so sorry this happened to you.

I don't know, but a possible idea would be to post your whole PM exchange with him, just remove all YOUR personal details. Conceivable, somebody might get some hints about the person, or at least it might help somebody in the future to recognize him.

The Nigerian IP could be a proxy.

I came here from a link on AtariAge where I am more active. I have bought many Atari upgrades over the years -- mostly from small businesses and makers and have had no problems -- the community as a whole is very honest and trusting so seeing a story like this really hurts.

Perhaps the forums should have buying and selling policies to follow which reduces problems and scams. It may be a little more work but anyone who is honest won't mind verifying that they are legit. MegaSTEarian, have you contacted PayPal or local police? (Don't post any details here just encase the scammer is reading anonymously.)

By the way, I tried for months to register on AmiBay and it seems like they were not accepting new users. Has anyone signed up recently?

They recently close the site for upgrades I'd noticed not long ago. Notice was on the main page.

Omg! ;(

Love and desire for something (CT6x in this case) can really make man a blind ;(

One that took money from you, he really had to plan this! I can bet that this is not his first, nor last fraud!

Their registration process is somewhat strict. Same happened to me, I think I even posted it here on AF, begging for someone to contact administrators there. In the end I registered while being in Australia, under a new account.

My suspicion is that they check the location way too strictly. So I entered "Bratislava" (my home city back then) while living in Kosice (my then temporary place of residence) and it didn't match with my IP. Also, if your IP is providing strange geolocation data, it may be an issue. So try something like https://whatismyipaddress.com, enter that city/region into the registration form and see what happens.

Yup, I have registered last month.

You have to contact the administrator as their registration process seems to have some issues.

Checked Amibay few days ago and no new registrations are accepted. Maybe an admin is the only way in.
