Looking for Fast ST BASIC

Post by MystikShadows »

Also called FaST BASIC,

I've heard it was alot like ST BASIC, no line numbers, and many more advantages, I'm wondering if someone happens to have that in there .st files somewhere possibly :-).

I believe it was availabe in a cartridge and then a regular program on disk.

Thank you all for any help in finding this :-).

I have it! I bought it in non-cartridge form. I'll try and get into my attic to find it. After many years being stored, I hope the floppy still works.

It's hard for me to believe that it is so difficult to be found. Ok, i don't have it, I never used it (I was always into GFA), but I remember that the magazines had Fast Basic listings pretty often. So it must be popular enough.
And it seems strange to me that you have to wait for so long to get it in a forum like that. So, maybe it wasn't so popular as i used to believe.

Well, here you go, version 1.05c :)

Where I got it from? A POV archive I have on my laptop. ;) So MSD, don't search for it, it's probably the same :)

NOTE: I could just claim here that I got an idea to search specifically on the POV collection and claim that my deductive skills are excellent, but it didn't happen this way. I just issued a search on TC and let it rip my hard disk :)

ggn, thank you so much for this.

I've read that the help for Fast ST BASIC was a file on the disk itself. Do you happen to have that as well? if not, does anyone?

Atari_mark, how is your attic search going? Any luck?

Thanks again everyone, if I can get the referrence, it will be awesome.

I managed to find it eventually in my attic amongst 3 Sinclair Spectrums, lots of manuals and some Multiface devices!

The first time my falcon has been on for well over a year but I managed to MSA the floppy

Hi again atari_mark,

thank you so much for the effort....I really appreciate you taking the time to do this....the MSA file worked wonderfully and i now have fast ST BASIC on my STEEM emulator..

i was told the docs were on the disk, but I haven't seen on the MSA file. Do you happen to have either the docs themselves, or a URL perhaps to where I can get those docs and some tutorials perhaps (if i'm lucky) ?

thanks again for your help, you and everyone else you replied :-).

Floppyshop has released some disk labeled 'Programming Fast Basic' and there are utilities on 'Floppyshop Utility 0069'. You can find them at http://www.planetumu.net.

The msa is the whole disk, my copy of fast basic comes with a paper detailed manual and a quick reference card.

Forgot to add, all the POV disks use Fast Basic to calculate the sine and cosine tables for scrollers and bob tables.

I wrote the company asking for the source code or documentation or even the address of the author and all I got was this reply:

"We have a few people here who remember it, but I'm afraid that's about the extent of it. No documentation I'm afraid."

At least they wrote me back.

Ok I had another trip into my attic and yet again brought down my copy of fast basic. I have scanned the reference card and created a PDF document (attached).

I'm unsure who to ask.
Can the Fast Basic Quick Reference Card (link above) be uploaded to Atari Document Archive for historical purposes?
Also, does anyone have a PDF of the manual?

Cheers
