SNDH YM archive v4.8 released

Post by Grazey / PHF »

Well 5 years late, but finally the latest SNDH update is ready. It was way back on 6th January 2018 when v4.7 was unleashed. This release features over 700 new or updated SNDH files amounting to over 1600 tunes. Highlights for this outing include: 0913 tunes by Ultrasyd, the resurgence of Jess and your usual batch of quirky obscure curiosities. We have also updated the web-site, so from now on new SNDH’s will be available immediately. For more info please read the SNDH 4.8 read me document and the SNDH blog. Ohhhhh and there’s a tasty intro with this release from PHF – KUA – Sector 1 – Loud!

700 new... "Sounds" great.
Falcon with CT60 in rack mountable case. Two STFMs, one upgraded lots. My original STE from when I was a teen with Switchable TOS, 1.44Mb drive, 4MB RAM, Supra Hard Drive and very very yellow case. Mega STE with (currently none working) Crazy Dots 2. Atari 2600 and a Jag. And a mountain of commercial software and lots of hardware addons.

Great!!
Cool to see most of my tunes released since 2018 in there too. :D Can I dm you about some missing tunes and faulty metadata?
Really cool that you can play tracks from the browser; not sure if that was possible before, but I certainly didn't know about it! Doesn't work too well for most of my tracks, unfortunately, due to them using DMA and/or recently innovated sounds.

Intro works nicely with latest EmuTOS release (v1.2.1) on (Hatari emulated) ST, MegaST, STE and MegaSTE!

It works also partially (as mentioned in the included doc) on (emulated) TT and Falcon. Are the bad looking logo colors on them due to Hatari missing raster emulation for TT / Falcon, or shortcoming in the intro itself?

The intro uses overscan. So the middle part is skipped on the TT & Falcon. The other parts should work though.

Attached images show how it looks in Hatari TT emulation, i.e. the logo looks significantly worse than on ST/STE.

Is intro using onscreen palette modifications in this part, to increase available colors?

If it is, this is Hatari issue (of supporting rasters only for ST/STE emulation). Otherwise I think demo is not handling palette updates correctly on TT / Falcon.

PS. I scaled images down & limited colors to 16 to reduce their file size and fit them better to the post (which reduces the quality a bit further). However, for some reason, forum upscales the images to larger size when it shows them for the first time. And it's not just telling browser to show them in larger size, but the attachments are also replaced with the scaled ones (having larger file size). WTF?

Yes. I use Timer B for raster splits. So each line of text has its own palette (x6) plus the logo. So guess an hatari issue?

Yes, then it's issue with Hatari "Videl" code, used for both TT and Falcon emulation.

Unlike emulation for ST/STE video, that does not yet have support for rasters (palette is evaluated only on each emulation frame update / VBL).
