HW-130 Programming Adapters for Hades060
Hello,

Sorry for the English but my German is so bad. :P

I am trying to recreate the programming enviroment for the Hades060 Xilinx chips.

I have the HW-130 programming unit:

My Hades would love to talk to you.

I found the HW-133-PC68 adapter last year.

Found the last 2 adapters now (HW-133-PC44 and HW-133-PC84).

This gives me the ability to program all the Hades Xilinx chips!

Congrats! What are your plans for the Hades, what do you want to change?

I had an old PCIMAIN chip in mine so no network card would work. Now I have PCIMAIN v5 and the network is good.

My goals for acquiring this hardware/software:

1) Upgrade Xilinx chips to newest versions for better functionality
2) Be able to program new chips if mine fail due to age
3) Be able to program chips for other Hades users if it can fix their machine.
4) I was told it was impossible to find all this soooo

I asked for the Hades Xilinx design files from Fredi but he never responded. It would be nice to have them archived. I have all the XACT software to work with them.

Hello,

To program the Hades chips, you need the HW-130 programmer and a computer that can interface it (i.e. needs a parallel port), the correct adapters for the Xilinx chips used in the Hades, (44-pin, 68-pin and 84-pin), the programming software and the chip HEX files to program them into the chips.

What chip are you looking to program?

Is it worth updating these chips or is it better don't touch if everything works? From what I've heard after the update, Hades may not even start. On my board, the chip versions tend to be older, but I can't complain about how Hades works.
Is there any inventory of amendments? What has been improved in subsequent versions?

There is some information in the HISTORY file:

Code: Select all

History: Changes to the Hades
************************************************************************************
10/09/97

Current Configuration: XILINX: IRMAIN 11
                                    PCIMAIN 5
RAMROM 7/9 for FPM RAM or 8/10 for EDO RAM
                                    LBUS I
                        TOS x8
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOS Changes
====================================================================================
Date Source file Burn file Text
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10/09/97: TOS447.S TOS_x8.IMG Both caches off at boot (cache not necessary)
                                    New floppy routines
                                    New SCSI routines (SCSI 3)
                                    New memory configuration
####################################################################################
10/29/97

HADES_B3.ACC:
-------------
New Hades ACC for all graphic cards. With ET4000 and ET6000 it is possible to
set the screen RAM to cache-write-through mode which is much faster.
This works only with the NOVA drivers and not with NVDI ET4000. Additionally,
this eliminates the SCSI transfer error that occurred with HADES_B2.ACC and
the ET6000. Also, check the new setting options in the HADES.INF file.
####################################################################################
11/13/97

XILINX RAMROM 12 EDO:
---------------------
Correction to XILINX RAMROM for EDO RAM that fixes a problem when there are
more than 2 modules. The MA0 und MA1 signals were a little late.
####################################################################################
12/07/97

TOS:
----
New TOS serialization. Serial number is visible in Desktop Info.

XILINX RAMROM 16 EDO:
---------------------
XILINX RAMROM 16 now supports byte-wide SIMMs. Also has a new refresh
algorithm. 4/8MB modules as well as byte-wide 64MB modules maximum
4 pieces (with EDO!). In the meantime, the XILINX RAMROM 14 was delivered with
and error detecting the 2nd pair -> do not use anymore.
####################################################################################
03/17/98

TOS 54:
-------
-New TOS with improved disk routines for Atari DD floppy disks.
-No bootsector read from the floppy disk -> faster start up, especially if
there is no HD disk in the drive.
-> no danger from bootsector viruses.
-Quickly detects if no IDE drive is connected.
-Machine also boots without any RAM and outputs an error code.
-Machine performs short hardware test at startup and outputs any
error code. For minor errors will try to start the Hades anyway.
-Even before the initialization of the graphics card (ET4000, ET6000, Mach64)
the ROMs of the PCI cards are checked through. If a value of "$ABCEDF42" is
found at address 0 then the address +4 is jumped to. The following registers
are available: A2-A4, D2-D3. The return address is A5. The screen base address
must be returned in A0 when a graphics card has been initialized. Otherwise
a 0 must be in this register. If D4 is less than $400000 then there is no
memory available otherwise it is the memory size.
-Support for ET6000 cards version 96. Preset of the clock register.

XILINX PCIMAIN 14,RAMROM F1 and F2 (extra charge):
--------------------------------------------------
-Burst mode with PCI bus DMA with SCSI cards, etc. The burst must be 4 longwords
in length (=1 Line =16 Bytes) and must begin at a line border (A2=0, A3=0) and
 increment linearly (0,4,8,12).
-Faster RAM timing of FPM (F1) and EDO (F2) RAM with the timing of the read cycle
as 3-1-1-1 instead of 4-1-1-1. This makes the Hades run around 20% faster.

Other:
------
-Drivers for NCR and Symbios based SCSI controllers on the PCI bus available
with transfer rates of over 10MB/sec. Ultra and Wide is supported.
-New bootloader loads the programs even before the hard disk driver. Further
information can be found in "BOOT.INF".
####################################################################################
04/08/98

XILINX RAMROM F3 and F4:
------------------------
Too short access time during DMA from PCI fixed.
Attention: With all XILINX RAMROM versions a maximum of only(!) 96 memory chips can
be addressed.
The Hades040 can only use normal FPM mode.
Remaining error in TOS: Write protect with floppy disks is not displayed correctly.
It only reports as a general error.
####################################################################################
04/14/98

TOS 55:
-------
Write protect error with floppy disks fixed.
####################################################################################

Fredi sent me all the Xilinx files he had for the Hades chips a couple of years ago. I also have a hardware setup to program the chips if you needed any newer ones programmed.

I had to update PCIMAIN from 4 to 5 to get the NIC working.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I noticed that the latest version of TOSPatch is TOS447.s (10.09.1997).
The "public" version is TOS443.s (27.03.1997).
Do you have this file (447) ? I "assembled" a Polish version of Hades TOS and I'm curious about these fixes.

Code: Select all

Both caches off at boot (cache not necessary)
New floppy routines
New SCSI routines (SCSI 3)
New memory configuration
