BlitZwav / Cybernetics (demo)

Post by metalages »

We were very happy to present our "BlitZwav" musik disk at Evoke 2022 this week end.

This musik disk is built around our very special sound routine (blitter to mix 4 PCM + 3 regular YM voices) with realtime effects based on sound replay.

This version is still a beta version as we were late ;) => we will release a final polished version soon :)

The compo mode only goes through a subpart of the musik disk which also provides fully interactive mode that allows you to play with FX from the keyboard (maybe we should have better competed in interactive competition category ;))

Stay tuned for more news ;)

really interesting technical improvment
does this include variable volume and frequency for each PCM channel ?

Rough volume by bit shitfing (6 db steps)
No portamiento => blitter can only octave transpose. reason why YM voices are really useful /complementary :)

Old discussion around the routine here : viewtopic.php?t=29097

You have more info here : https://github.com/gibs75/demOS/blob/ma ... /README.md
I will update code and docs soon with new version... ;)

thanks for this documented answer
i converted several music replay routine/technics from ST to Jaguar ( YM replay, Coso, LSP, future composer)
i will follow your work, as i am still looking for a music standard for Jaguar that would use its capacities ( playing 4 channels Amiga modules, or YM tunes even with all maxymiser effects, on a Jaguar is quite under the abilities of the console )

I am wondering : is audio in Jaguar similar to Falcon hardware ?

I have made an ugly hacked version of Milkytracker to write tunes for this routine (will publish it soon too)
Then a command line tool converts .xm files (edited with contraints) for my routine.

Jaguar features 2 16 bits channels ( right and left) , you can send 16 bits values to each channel using DSP.
there is an interruption linked to this sample replay and several timers.

and you've got your brain to code a replay routine using the DSP, which features 8 kb of fast memory, and 24 mhz.

no hardware volume variation, no hardware frequency managment , DSP software mixing !

@metalages that was great
I don not know why but it reminds me "Komische Sackratten von der Höhle aka Zonk" from Ooh Crikey Wot A Scorcher by The Lost Boys

Wow, an amazing presentation! I expected some raw tech demo to be shown and this is ... way above anything like that. :)

Haha busted!
But yeah, it was really imaginative, original and thoughtful. I really really loved it! Gonna rock it on real HW this weekend - can't wait.

Obviously, it should have got more votes ;) imo it was a travesty that the Amiga intros placed higher!!

Note there is a regression with Hatari 2.4 with the way I sync with the DMA sound loop.
Already seen with Nicolas Pomarede => may be fixed in 2.4.1
(works on older versions <= 2.3.1)

Does someone have this shifting problem in the menus on real hardware ?
https://youtu.be/ZRU6bvv_gJU?t=86

It runs fine on my ste and another one I have tested (TOS 1.62), but i was surprised with the one from the evoke party which had this shifting problem (the capture broadcasted on twitch was made on my STe). Looks like all ste do not have exactly the same shifter (the routine seems not tolerant enought).
If you have this problem on your STe, please contact me I would be interested to try to get this fixed...

Thanks
