Slim edition questions

Post by simonsunnyboy »

I'm seriously contemplating to order the slim edition from Lotharek, both as a spare and as the classic REV C one does not really fit into a 1040 case without butchering the case apart.

Will the slim edition with casing (as sold by Lotharek: http://lotharek.pl/product.php?pid=116) fit into the 1040 case without modification? E.q. just some screws and all is in place?
Is the button reachable through the old floppy slit?

How do I force the device to load the AUTOBOOT.hfe? Holding the button longer than 1sec?

I don't have the slim one, but after reading what you said.. I have not tried fitting mine in a case yet, it just looked the same size as a floppy drive to me, going by your post it seems not such a simple fit then ?

Thanks for pointing me to an alternative but my original questions are not really answered. This solution would fit without doubt but I'd prefer the more streamlined slim case sold by Lotharek. So any experiences with that one?

I finally got the Slim edition without casing. I now see that the floppy cable wil not fit. The plug has a nose which is in the way as the cable seems to be oriented. What can I do to make it fit? Kill the nose on the cable or better extend the 34pin connector somehow?

I contemplated this exact problem, I just took a craft knife to the knob on the cable and shaved it off. Then it fits perfectly. I'll post a picture of how I mounted it when I get the chance.

Maybe soemthing like this could be used to prolong the pins? http://www.reichelt.de/BL-2X17G8-2-54/3 ... hig+17+pol

I wonder if the extending pins are long enough to fit well into the floppy cable to make proper contact.
