MC68040RC40A L88M QVC0911 MALAYSIA NXP

Post by Rustynutt »

Have many 40MHz040's, purchased the one in the subject as some Amiga users noted it runs "cool" to the touch.
This one does anything but.
It's cookings, fan and heat sink required.

So, it's in the Afterburner.
I do use CPU adapter sockets to protect the CPU pins during frequent removal. Can imagine a bit of resistance there.
It's been a while since using the older mask, don't recall them operating at such high temps.

Is pin resistance enough to raise temps to extreme level there are?

Could it be its driving the stock power supply to over current?

Fakes?
Thanks for any times.

Well, if it has an NXP logo as you post suggests, it's clearly a fake. Freescale (maker of 68k CPUs) was only taken over by NXP in 2015, but your CPU has a datecode of 2009.

It was me who first wrote about L88M mask 040s should run almost cold. (They should do, they are 3 nodes later than the XC masks). Can't believe a few posts 16+ years ago started a counterfeit operation.

He said send it back :)

Did a over clocking in the Afterburner 040 with a CPU off a Mac Quad Doubler on it.
Had to go back to the original AB drivers and load fast ram with Malloc. Can only get 32mb this way. Both the original driver to load fast ram and TK507 are messing with the VDI, and it makes over clocking difficult.

Just realized, that's a bench without fast ram installed.
