Hatari and internet BBS with Windows 10

Post by cathrynmataga »

Is there a way to hook the hatari serial ports to internet BBS with Windows 10? It looks from the menu that it can write to a file, which I guess on Unix can be a pty? But not sure how to set this up for Windows or if it's possible.

Nobody has contributed to Hatari any code to do something like that on Windows, although Hatari project has been there almost for two decades...

(None of the Hatari developers has Windows, so anything Windows related needs to be tested & contributed by others.)

I see, thanks. Kind of what I was expecting, but nice to be sure.

There seems to be a way to get it working.

If you just want to see ANSI graffix, why not using syncterm ?

Windows WSL (Linux subsystem, basically a fancy VM) has nowadays GUI support, so one could run Ubuntu + Hatari with it. I'm assuming that Windows hyper-v can assign the VM serial port(s) to host one(s)...

I use com2com to create a pair of virtual serial ports under Windows (instead of socat for Linux):
https://sourceforge.net/projects/com0co ... m/3.0.0.0/
and the Windows binary of tcpser which can be found here:
https://github.com/go4retro/tcpser
(The binary requires cygwin.dll.)
Connect one end of the virtual serial ports to the emulator and the other end to tcpser. Works with MagiC-PC, might work with Hatari too.

In case you want to use MIDI:
I have MIDI Director on the Atari side to redirect MIDI to serial and Hairless MIDI-Serial Bridge for Windows https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Sy ... idge.shtml to send MIDI to the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth (included with Windows). I can play MIDI from Atari (using the correct software). I can even plug a MIDI keyboard into the pc and read the signal in Atari. Again, works with MagiC-PC, might work with Hatari. Basically the same procedure.
