FastRamBuffer

Post by Arne »

Thinking about the FRB it is usually mentioned that the FRB is used/needed by the Harddisk-driver for copying data from/to AlternateRAM for ACSI transfers. But as the FDC is also located "behind" the DMA IC: does TOS 2.06 use/need the FRB for FDD <-> AltRAM transfers?

And reading some 2003 Google archives, no, it doesn't, at least what Uwe said back then. Was looking into the Afterburner, and for that purpose, AB040FIX included since about V 9 is need.

Correct, the harddisk driver does not create the FRB buffer, it only use it. It's the job of whatever software that adds alt/TT-RAM to create the FRB buffer. On the TT that would be TOS, on a Falcon/AB it would be the AB driver.
