Re: Game code addressing memory at 0xe00802

The Medway Boys version on MWB Disk 7 is rather interesting. It doesn't say it's 1 Meg Only but I believe it is. It is a one part executable. Uncompressed it is approximately 450k. The menu loader has a mysterious message: "Setting machine to 1 Meg". I think this will be setting physbase to #$F8000 ...

Rest In Peace Sir Clive. I'm sure many of us would not have become programmers if it had not been for the ZX Spectrum.

Re: Game code addressing memory at 0xe00802

With TOS 1.00 on Steem Debug it points to 0xfc0634 which is the standard vertical blank interrupt handler.

RoadBlasters like OutRun uses a lot of standard things. It keeps the mouse pointer enabled for menu selection for example.

Re: MindBomb Demo (3D Megaballs Screen) Disassembly

I have worked for many hours trying to convert the waveforms to C# from JavaScript (Codef) for eventual conversion to C++ One idea is to look at the commented Red Sector Demo code to try to convert the transformation and perspective routines. They look very similar to the 3d Megaballs code. The tran...

So this is an auction of things owned by Peter Hook from New Order?

I wonder if they have a Certificate Of Authenticity with the hard drive or if the drive has been wiped?

That looks amazing! At first when I saw the title of this thread I thought it would be a conversion of Za Zelazna Brama (Behind The Iron Gate) from the Amiga, but this looks better.

Re: Atari Falcon Poster

I think the slogan Living On The Edge would have been a description of Atari's precarious financial position at that time. I agree a stock Falcon with grey keyboard and original badge, at a jaunty angle, would look better. Possibly superimposed on a picture of Mount Fuji itself! Some screenshots of ...

Re: Old Put pixel rout tries with some (french, sorry :S) explanations in GFA & more

Is this meant to run in low-res or med-res? My French is not so good. It is probably better to have an array of power bits to detect which pixel is to be set rather than bit shifting: DIM pow&(16) ' ' Table of power bits ' v=16384 FOR x|=1 TO 16 pow&(x|)=v v=v/2 NEXT x| I think to use this: ' dec&=S...

Another program by Nibart Helios is Enveloppe 2.0:

The text seems inconsistent with a conversion of the classic Space War game.

Re: Sample playback on ST/STF

The YM50k player is amazing, but playing SoundTracker modules requires a bit more processing than playing a single sample. It has to process the notation and implement effects such as arpeggio which is voodoo to me. It seems to be done very quickly in all the example players. A good sample replay ro...

Jan Beta does a MegaST cleanup and restoration here:

He seems to use a vacuum (I would think on the lowest possible setting) to clean most of it and an old toothbrush.

https://github.com/ggnkua/Atari_ST_Sources That looks like a great resource. I'm sure I also bought the source code to the Spiral demo screen from Mindbomb. I'd be tempted to sync-lock the rasters to get them stable Thanks Thomas. That sounds like a good idea! I'll look into that. Budgie Source Cod...

MindBomb Demo (3D Megaballs Screen) Disassembly

Hi All, I have wanted to rewrite this demo using DirectX in Windows for years. I know a beautiful CODEF conversion exists and I am at present converting the waveforms to C# for conversion to C++ later. I have documented my findings so far here: http://lynn3686.com/3dmega/3dmega.html I think for the ...

Re: Discovery Cartridge eBay Auction

I'm not sure if the Discovery Cartridge is necessary at all. It might be a nice collectors item due to its rarity and value. An option 2 might be nice as it would be the most advanced. You need to write configure files to read exotic disk formats. I am thinking that that a Kyroflux and a nice PC set...

The original 2 disk STX disk images are here: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-st-ghostbusters-ii_9438.html It can be played on any version of STEEM. Make sure you have pasti.dll installed. I have tested it with STEEM 3.2 (TOS 1.0) and STEEM 4.0 (STE, TOS 1.62). The game doesn't work with 2 disk...

No, I'm sure in the past I used Knife ST but in this case I used KKCMD.

It also works on TOS 1.04 and TOS 1.06 and 1.62 STE configurations in STEEM. Edit: You posted your version about 30 seconds before mine, so I'll delete my copy to prevent...

HLS Duplication? I looked into that a while ago: https://sarnau.info/atari-st-protection-hls/ That's a great starting point. This game is slightly different from the games mentioned. Programs like FastCopy 3 think the disk is 79 tracks, 9 sectors, 1 side. Track 79 is where the copy protection is wi...

Thanks for the explanation @atary. In Computer Design II at University in 1993 they didn't explain the effects of under-voltage or the tolerances. Sinclair had similar issues with non-Ferranti ULA chips. I wonder how many ST models used these IMP chips and if they have any undesirable effects? Remin...

Re: Atari 520STFM with strange "bodges"

I always thought that TTL in those days was strictly +5 Volts, not 4.5V but I now understand that these things are all relative. Why would they make an out of spec component that requires 4.5V for an already established design? Was heat dissipation a consideration?
