Dumb single sided questions from n00b

Post all your Kryoflux related topics in here. From questions about the hardware through to disks you've managed to image up and, probably most importantly, write back without any problems :)

Dumb single sided questions from n00b

Postby matburton » Fri Aug 31, 2018 11:52 am

Hey all,

I'm new to owning an Atari ST having recently acquired a 1040STe.

I've been writing out a few games and demos with my Kryoflux.
It works well, but so many of my disks are unusable due to a few bad tracks/sectors :|

Given many of disks are only bad on one side, which side is the single side the Atari uses for single sided games?
Is it the top (label) side or the bottom?
Does the side used relate to DTC -g0 or DTC -g1?
(I feel I should have been able to Google the answer to this but failed )

Also are games listed by atarimania as single-sided always truly single-sided?
Or can there end-up being sneaky STe extras or something there or even extra copy-protection for double sided drives?

Meanwhile you solve that doubt: have you tried these adapted games?

ST/fm/e, STacy, Mega ST/e, TT, Falcon, C-Lab MKX... and more music tools.

Hey Atarieterno,

I wasn't aware of that so thanks for the link. It looks like that's mostly for running games from a hard-disk?
I have a HxC so I can always use that if I want, but there's just something nice about using real hardware as it was :D
Hence I'm trying to make good use of the DD disks I have where possible :?

I've not yet found a game I haven't been able get working after writing-out an IPF, RAW, SCP or STX image (that's my order of preference).
My problem is really around making best use of the disks I have given some are borked but only on one side of the platter.
