Here's my entry, taking a lot of inspiration from the earlier iterations...

I also made a logo candidate :) The font is the same as used in the Commodore logo.

I like the MiST logo with the first 2 letters reflecting the Amiga font and the last 2 the ST font. I suppose that leaves the question of what to do with the 2 remaining letters. How about the "er" from Terasic? That would be very appropriate...

This is looking really good.
The close spacing really makes this unique and this would look good as a sticker or case badge too.

Just an idea, but why not use six different letters from six different plattforms running on MiSTer?

I think we can get more creative than just writing the word MiSTer in various fonts and kerning, how about adding symbolized letter M or other abstract logo?

It's hard to make a good logo.
I'll give an example that I have personal experience with, the Barnes&Noble Nook logo:

nook-logo.jpg

This was one of many under consideration for the product.

It had to represent many things and be multi-purpose.

First, it had to be easily recognizable and distinctive.

2nd, it had to serve a multi-purpose. The stylized "N" was used a physical button on some of the devices and it had to allow for various permutations for print, web, app, badging, etc...

Nook-1st-Gen.jpg
240px-Nook_Color_Showing_Wikipedia_Index_On_Dolphin_Browser_HD.jpg

Finally, it just had to "work" and be a representation of the brand itself.

I'll admit that I didn't like the logo at first (or the name of the product), but it sure was distinctive.

Thanks, my hope is if we hammer it enough someone will develop a logo that'll blow our minds

You bet we can, this is merely the experimental stage. :)

Very important edit: I took great inspiration from gagadagatika's logos. I merely tweaked the idea.

I was browsing these logos to see if anything stood out to me, and I like quite a few of them, but this one in particular got me thinking:

download/file.php?id=38904&mode=view

(I dont think I have enough posts to even quote/repost your image, but it is the one at the top that is made out of blocks.)

This one sticks out for me because it captures the nature of MiSTer, and it's multiple cores kind of being represented by those blocks.

I think if we could make a high-res version, and have logos in those blocks to represent the different cores (without infringing trademark, etc of course) then we would have a pretty awesome logo.

For a smaller sized one since detail in the blocks would be hard to make, we could simplify the individual logos to a block of colored pixels to loosely represent the blown up logo image from the larger logo.

It could be something interactive that could be worked on over time, just like the MiSTer project. Start with say maybe 100 squares and fill out as many squares as we can for the existing cores, and it is also kind of a progress graph on the road to 100 cores! When we reach that, maybe expand it to 200 blocks and convert the previous blocks over to an even smaller size for the next iteration.

As MiSTer becomes more complex and encompassing, so does the logo =)

But where are we gonna find folks that want to make various size icons for all the different cores? That might be an issue. In which case, just maybe do the 100 block logo and just fill that out with the first 100 cores that people make an image for to fill that space, and leave it at that.

Just an idea. I love this project and if I had any graphic editing prowess I would donate it to help with logo design more than this.

How about we ask the Famicube guy if he'd allow using his design?
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/0 ... l_universe

Of course it would need some tweaks to rebrand to something not owned by Nintendo, but color scheme and that disk logo can be kept similar enough...

I just quickly threw something together myself. Hope you like it.

I wanted to combine old and new without lending a style from a specific system MiSTer emulates. The squares represent the cores (the systems) and the same time should remind of pixels as a homage to the old machines. The font should give it a more modern, techy look. I tried to achieve some dynamic with the tilted design and three sizes of squares while keeping it simple and memorable. The one golden square in the middle emphasizes the "core".

The font is Oxanium, an OFL Font: https://fontlibrary.org/en/font/oxanium

I'll be honest, I'm not sure the name helps in terms of designing a logo (or trying to search online), the i and the er don't actually stand for anything, do they? I'd probably just leave it as MST, the ST in reference to MiST and the ST core...when it happens and the M for Multicore. Or maybe just M.ST.

It simplifies things in terms of design and sounds more like a piece of hardware than MiSTer does.

Having said that, I'm not altogether sure how important the name actually is.

I like the current name. As for the original, Mi = Amiga and ST = Atari ST. MiST also means "crap" on German or something like that.

MiSTer references the original and also adds some class :D

Hm, I did brainstorm a bit. All fonts used are OFL fonts.

I very much like SmokeMOnster's trapper keeper design... because... you know... trapper keepers are rule!

Also, i am very fond of the fonts posted by Lodovic.

maybe i will try to create my own version. I think it will need to contain NURBs curves

And another, different approach. The "Mr" writing is a hand drawn path (vector versions of all my designs are available if needed). The 110k LE is the amount of logic elements of the FPGA (the font is Metropolis: https://fontlibrary.org/en/font/metropolis).

Edit: added an overview and more ideas.
