RIP Steve Bak

Postby sebdel » Thu Feb 07, 2019 8:43 am

I'm sad to report that Steve Bak, from Goldrunner, Return to Genesis and others fame, has passed away as reported on twitter by his son:
https://twitter.com/niinegames/status/1093256843944755213

I'll remember him as the absolute master of fast, software only 50Hz scrolling on the ST. No one came close. A true Atari legend.

Sad news.
Rest in peace this genius that is also part of the Atari legend, his work will remain in our memory forever.

That's sad. RIP, Goldrunner is still one of my fondly remembered games.

And as a Germany magazine (I think it was Power Play, Happy Computer or ST Magazin) wrote "Scrolls nochmal, Steve"
Scroll it again, Steve! ;)

Happy Computer 8/88, a two page article about Steve Bak.

I have also fond memories of Goldrunner. It was one of the first games I played on my 520STM - and yes, I had the original. The title screen with the speech was just wow!
