Master of Orion

Postby jury » Fri Jan 11, 2019 9:00 am

Here comes SDL Master of Orion game engine recreation, called 1oom, cross-compiled to atari platform. Works in MiNT and TOS, it just needs pbx files from original game which is for example available on gog.com ( for 6$ for MoM 1 and 2 ) and this is the version I have tested it with. Just drop the prg to the folder with pbx and it should work.
Performance wise, it plays just great on my CT63@97MHz.
In addition, there is a command line user interface :) ( I guess this one should work without CT6x ;) )
Source code attached.

Link to the original 1oom website:

I think I'm lost in space for quite some time now :)

Edit:
Adding firebee executable.

This is great! Thanks! :)
Would it be possible also to compile it for the Coldfire?

One thing ( flaw ). On Super Videl it quite regulary flickers. Its playable, but obviously with less comfort. Will try to investigate it.

I do not have Firebee, so I sent you an email with executable to test.

Yeah, lets hope that moo2 will also get the open source remake, as I'm hungry for 4x space strategies lately :)
There was a moo2 remake started some time ago, but it has vanished and I do not even know how much it was completed. But it was being done in Pygame, so rather useless if it goes for our platform.

I did a quick test and it works great on the FireBee except there is no sound. Great work!
Thank you!

Great, I'm attaching that version to the first post. Thanks for testing.

Yes, there is no sound generaly. I had some problems with some sdl_mixer functions during linking, so to do a quick test I configured it without this library, and ... forgot about it ...
But having more time lately I tried to find whats going on and found out that those functions were missing in sld_mixer header. So I asked Patrice if it was on purpose and he wrote back that the missing functions are from the newer sdl_mixer version, but it should be possible to have them in updated version. So lets hope it will be happening, then I will rebuild moo1 again.
Fortunately, there are not much sounds in this game, so not a big deal, but it will of course be good to have version with sound as well.
