Yep still a mock up, soon not to be as the story goes. In some ways I agree, it will be a hard market, maybe too hard. In other ways I would like to see Atari make something more than what they have been doing for years. Are they relying on history, yes of course they are, but that's no different than a lot of companies. Do I hold onto my past, of course I do, that's why I still use Ataris. We keep the brand alive in our own way, I say let them do the same with something a little more meaningful. A PC in a box, maybe, but the same could be said with many things, the 68000, 68030...they were not bespoke chips, just computers with a mixture of components, most not bespoke, and a badge. I say let them try, will it be a flop, quite possibly, but hey, better than being static.
