CosmosEX with Mint or MagiC

Postby watzl-berg » Wed Dec 20, 2017 9:50 pm

Is there any progress concerning the use of the CosmosEX along with MINT or MagiC?

Unfortunately not but it hasn't been forgotten either. Ideally someone take a look into CE driver source and figure out for *exactly* is wrong. The general idea is clear, the driver hooks on the GEMDOS trap calls which are replaced by the respective OSes but it isn't clear why it doesn't work then the driver is loaded *after* the OS is up and running.

Oh, this is news to me, as I have run both MiNT and MagiC on my system using the microcosmos.

So what exactly would I find to be the issues?

I think the issue is in the translated mode, i.e. when you put, say, an USB stick, and want to access it as a normal GEMDOS drive.

ok, so as long as I am running magiC off the SDcard, and dont try and use the translated drives I should be ok?

Does Genevia have the same issues?

Yeah, the RAW mode doesn't use the driver at all.

No, Geneva only replaces the AES, the original BIOS/XBIOS/GEMDOS is still in use so the CosmosEx driver should not be affected.

So I am using a Microcosmos, with MiNT(freeMiNT) and i can access the translated drives, but I do have some funky issues where it does seem to mess up the reading and writing.. so I am assuming this is it, usually if I try and run something on it. If all i do is use them for file transfers so far so good.

have not tried with MagiC yet, I think MagiC will be the multitasking os I go with.. it just will run better on a megaSTE.

MagiC is a 3 bomb when loading, before, or after as mentioned.

As magiC is the most viable OS given most are using 4mb and multitasking etc.. would be desirable for anyone doing more than just games, I think this is the biggest issues to be fixed with the cosmos - it is even more useful as using a translated drive with long file names, works and would be even better with magiC's abilility to use them. I know magiC is not public, but I also think it is very well documented for those programming no?

Anyone feel like taking the mantle up on the CE_DD driver? so that we can have translated drives for MagiC.
