it's standard way to automatically push the file to core at startup. It's reserved for bios/ipl, but if core doesn't require the bios/ipl, then it's free for loading other files at startup if core accepts.
If file is in root of SD, then it should have <name>.rom where <name> is name you see in OSD at the left vertically. If file is in core's dedicated folder, then it should have name boot.rom
