Exxos (Chris) on the board here has a store that sells HD kits, IIRC:

Darklord, thanks for the link, I probably should have specified that I have an STE with TOS2.06 and have HD FDD support built in, and have soldered the link to make it live.

So I guess the question should be, how do I fit an HD FDD in an STE that has HD mode enabled i.e. option is visible in GEM format disk dialog? And I guess where can I get a drive from, or can I use a standard HD FDD?

Thanks to all for your help on here BTW :)

In that same link, Chris recommends this floppy drive:

Sony MPF920

and he also details various mods that might have to be
done.

As far as "fitting", if you're talking about the faceplate
differences, most people do a little creative engineering
and modify it to accept the new drive. That's what I did
with my STacy when I added a 1.44 drive.

Yes, Sony MPF920 is ok. I have tested it on an STe and on a Falcon too.

Thanks all, I'll go back and re-read the article, as I confess it was a bit of a skim read

I'll look into the MFP 920, I may even have one lying around.

Trouble is, I binned a load of kit when I moved house last August, so I'm not 100% sure.

TBH, it's an STE housed in a STFM case that's already heavily modified, so I'm not beyond getting the tools out to do some mre case mods.

Since I want to mod the case to allow access for my CF card connected to AlanH's IDE adapter, I'll just add it to the to do list :D

Hi all,

I´m new to this forum and I´m about to order the IDE Controller for my Atari. Some questions left, I would like to ask them here....

Actually I´m using an 520ST with an old harddrive solution via the ACSI port (2 RLL drives with each 10MB and an Omti controller).

1--Now with the new IDE drive I would like to know if it is possible to use both drives at a time to copy/move all files from the old hdd to the new IDE hdd or CF card ??

2--Am I´m right that the one cable from the IDE controller that has to be attached to pin 10 on the ASCI port is only necessary if I want to have boot capability from the IDE drive ??

3--Without TOS 2.06 I have to boot from floppy ??

Maybe someone has the answers to my questions.... :-)

Thanky a lot

Sven

Yes, no problem.

That depends on the harddisk driver I believe. With HD-Driver it's true.

Floppy or your external harddisk.

So, I've had another play around tonight, and got some good results. I'm using CBHD as my driver, and I am gobsmacked at just how much faster it is to format and partition that AHDI.

I have a dual CF/IDE adapter connected to AlanH's IDE adapter, into which I had a 1GB card. This is in my STE 4MB.

Tonight I pulled that and successuly dropped in my 16GB card, which formatted ok with CBHD, partitioned up fine into 4 256Meg slots, and installed the driver. (I'm gettting the hang of CBHD now, even if it is in German!)

I then popped the 16GB card into slot 2, the original 1GB card into slot one, and powered back on. Once booted, I installed devices, and got another 4 drives visible.

Copying between the two devices was quick and seemingly worked very well.

So, all good, I have 2 good working drives. Next bit of tinkering will determine just how much of that 16GB I can actually use, and some messing around with partition sizes. I know TOS 2.06 can happily deal with 512MB, but I've read that TOS > 2.XX can support 1GB, so has anybody tried that at all, or am I just misleading myself with bad info from the internet?

You probably want to look at the MonSTer thread now.

Finally got round to installing the rev2 (with the primary fix applied) I bought years ago in my STE (Tos 1.62/2.06).

I'm attempting to use an IDE to CF adapter with a 2GB CF card using the CBHD drivers.

However I'm hitting a stumbling block, CBHD appears to detect everything correctly but it seems I am only able to make one partition, for some reason clicking on any arrows on the adjustment bars has no effect on increasing the partition size except for bar 0 (zero)

Is this a problem anyone else has come across?

CF-cards can be tricky. Try HD-Driver instead, it specifically supports CF-cards. There is a demo available on Uwe's website.

I did try HD Driver but it was version 8.13 (2 bombs loading driver, 4 bombs using auto driver configure)

All working now with HD Driver 8.13. Had to swap to an IDE to SD adapter (CBHD still wanted to only make one partition though when I tried it)

That's what I'm using too. Works with all IDE-aware drivers I've tried so far. I'm actually using AHDI 6 on all machines (STM, STE and Mega) as it's free and I really doesn't need all HD-Driver features on those machines.

Yes, ACSI is not affected in any way by this card. But you need a harddisk-driver that knows the difference between ST-RAM and alt-RAM. HD-Driver between 7.6-something and late 8.x has a bug that causes data corruption on ACSI-devices when alt-RAM is in use. I have used AHDI 6.06 without any problems.

These older IDE boards are not produced by me anymore. I now do the MonSTer board instead.

Maybe you could edit the original post and note this somewhere (in bold?!) to let people know ;-)

Sad because the only IDE Board where useful for a PAK68 with TOS 3.06 on it. The MonSTer only works with TOS 2.06 on the PAK ...
