SuperVidel production!

The SuperVidel production is closing in!

It is now time for you to re-register your interest in buying the SuperVidel. This is because we started the poll 1.5 years ago and since then the CTPCI has been released and generally people may have lost interest. So we need to get a fresh picture of how many boards to actually produce, since that will affect the price of each unit. So please go to the SV interest poll at our main page at nature.atari.org, click the update link and carefully follow the instructions.

This sounds very interesting.
I do however have some questions.
First, I have just received a CT63 and CTPCI. Is it possible to fit the SuperVidel to these as well?
second, (and I have had a very quick look at your web site) could you give some idea of the price please?
Third you web site talks about some network boards, could you explain more (or point me in the right direction).
Again, would these be compatible with a CT63 and CTPCI? What part of the system do they fit to?

I also read about the networking on the SV.
It seems that there is enough horsepower on the chip to support networking and the guys did it.
You need to run a cable from the board to NIC connector.

Does anyone know where are the benchmark on the SV video capability?

Each board stacks onto the bus expander of the ct60. However the hardware manual states the stacking needs to be in the following order:

---- SuperVidel
---- CTPCI
---- CT60

For sure it will not be possible with a Falc case.
My CT63+CTPCI seems already touching the ventilations opening of the case.

Of course to have them all would require recasing. However, if you look through http://nature.Atari.org there is mention of an adapter that moves the bus connectors back a few centimetres so that the ct6x sits further towards the back of the machine. Add to that, you wouldn't necessarily need the etherNat if you have a SuperVidel and had no requirement for USB...

Regarding the SuperVidel video benchmarks, if you mean possible resolutions, we currently run 1680x1050x16bit 60Hz every day. 1920x1080 should be the upper limit of what the video clock system can handle, but is definitely possible. The hardware already supports 32bit as well in all resolutions, but we're currently working on the NVDI patch for this, so we don't use it every day yet.
The SuperVidel also outputs dual screen, via a DVI-I connector, so you get one analog and one digital screen output. A splitter cable available at ebay then separates these into a D-SUB + DVI-D connector. You can mount the connectors at the back of your case. We have at most run two 1680x1050x16bit screens at the same time.

The small ethernet board is called Svethlana, and is connected via a small flat cable from the rear end right corner of the SuperVidel board. You can then screw the Svethlana to the back of your original falcon case.

We have a detailed discussion of what you can fit into the original case, with photos, on nature.atari.org. Select Projects, and the SuperVidel. Here you find more details of the hardware and planned FPGA features too.
Unfortunately we don't have a CTPCI (though we ordered one long ago), so we can't give any detailed answers regarding mechanical fitting and compatibility right now. But the SuperVidel is easily upgradable, WITHOUT any cables needed, so it is no big deal to improve CTPCI compatibility if problems should arise. Of course assuming that a problem doesn't really need to be solved in the CTPCI...

Hey folks, ever since I read about the "dual" feature od the video out, I always wandered if by "dual" you mean "two *different* screens" as in "a very long desktop" or just "a duplicated desktop"

May you clarify this to me? Thanks!

Some Kronos benchmark would be good.

The SV can run both "long extended desktop" and "cloned desktop", because that's only a software issue.

We have no Chronos benhmarks yet, but we'll soon make a demo video to show the desktop performance. But we have made other measurements and for example our SuperBlitter is 30 times faster than the old ST-RAM (150MB/s compared to 5MB/s). And this value will at least double in the future (DDR2 SDRAM bandwidth is 1600MB/s so the theoretical limit of the SuperBlitter is 800MB/s).
