tbh i had far fewer issues with the ICD Pro utilities than with hddriver and i very much liked the highly configurable write-cache options in the ICD drivers. Write-caching seems to be complete missing from hddriver.

ICD pro cannot detect my 2nd IDE HDD.
Even Cecile will do that.
Of course HDDriver does.

infact icd has trouble detecting a 1GB drive mostly
i tried it with my old seagate 1GB Scsi
its best for smaller than 720MB for sure

best thing to do with ataris
is set up the system you want hdd/cd/sd etc... wise

install the driver

then leave it alone

if you add in a line you must power all items
if you add a cd or cd writer

the driver just doesnt forget its there if you unplug it

lots of people think ataris are plug and play in this way

if you add a unitation scsi or ide etc you must tell the resident driver
or it most often wont get addressed and will leek back

so will get half addressed

no such exotics with atari
as pnp pc or maX allow.

well its time to slag hd driveler

as its poo in terms of detection

why pay this guy £20+ for poo
that doesnt on exe interprite the driver installed check whats avalbile
and adjust

the driver isnt the borg for sure big time
im NOT paying ure
until he adds a media detection and update program

when he does ill pay him double

end of slag

its easy to make challange routines sets as a simple base set of scsi challange

that authenticates a drive on power up address...

come on ure dont be lazy
lots of bods to help you m8

make a bbs lets get it right

even a simple new drive detect adjust program is needed

any break in the chain usualy causes problems
most often with guys with scsi 2 and ide falcons
who frankly dont have a clue and move there units around
without refreshing both the ide and scsi main root drivers... per change

lets face it

ataris own software is crap but for there own stuff well written and works the best for sure !!!!
unless you add bigger than it can handle

icd is great for small size scsi drives

hddriver lacks refresh detection
the load semantics are crap ..... !
ie

on boot the system on driver load should load a few dat files and first scan past the boot partition for other drives
a diverse topic and one for bbs and thrashing out maybe multi method added later

its only a few small data file loads for a scanning to do it
its much like a virus scanner does,,, but for attached devices and already desired configs

ie youve plug it in already and its on a different port

its like the bold leading the blind

this is very old hat to me pre 486 detection
and why hd driver struggles along the same path just allowing bigger translations
and no autodetection tools

im not sure

maybe ure needs a good "BOOT UP THE ARSE !!!!"

the end of my rant... ffs...

some nice beer tonight

ahhhh

got it all out so here it is

well i guess they both have their plus and minus points

the way i see it, if your using TOS & GEM apps only then the ICD Pro drivers are fine and also easy to use/configurable. If your running something more exotic like mint etc then hddriver wins out

Unfortunately Cecile turns blue on 060 Yellow_Colorz_PDT_09
So I'm stuck with HDDriver.

Asked about it on another topic.

Basically, running from desktop is OK and it works. :)
But making it Auto start turns the screen blue & hangs. This is on a CT63. :(

May be I am lucky that I do not such "unitation scsi or ide" because I do change my 2nd IDE device from HDD to CD-drive to DVD-drive to CF-drive to SD-reader to nothing almost every other day, depending on the sun & moon I guess
Everytime, it gets detected correctly on HDDriver.
and No, I am not defending him.

simbo wrote:until he adds a media detection and update program

You mean whether there is a DVD media in the device or not?
I think that's the OS itself must know if it can receive alerts from the driver if a media change occur.
Something like floppy where tos is polling (funny way - polling takes up cpu cycles) :(

Just enable all bus and all ID detection in the device and partition dialog box, no? :?

Umm..

I had ICD FA-ST for long time ago, My brother gave it to his girlfriend and broken up and LOST ICD unit! DUH! :x

Anyways.. I am kinda of focus to the 1040ST make works with that I made the board for SCSI. not IDE.

I remember the ICD FA-ST device did not use driver but does have utilities for partition and formatter and real clock that's all it does.

I believe the ICD FA-ST is same as AdSCSI Plus ST like this http://www.icd.com/atari/adscsiplus.jpg I really want schematic for this. I will dare to make one!

Sad.. hard to find them!! :(
