How to find.

Postby Bikerbob » Thu Mar 31, 2016 10:10 pm

Is there any way externally that you can identify an 800xl to be the one that was all socketed chips?

I would like to find one to do my upgrades modding to. desoldering and socketing the board would be a LOT of work. Im getting too old for that!!

I don't believe there is a way... That said, they're not too hard to get apart and take a look. I've got one that's got barely any sockets, one that's around 50/50 and one that's fully socketed which is super handy :)

If you do open it up just take care when lifting the top half of the case off as it's attached via the keyboard ribbon cable.

HongKong on the label on the bottom usually has all socketed chips. Most all 600XL were Hongkong Manufacturing .
