Games that would have been nice to see on Atari

Postby Retrogamer_ST » Thu Jan 03, 2013 10:25 am

I would have been nice to see at least one of Codemasters "Dizzy" games on A8. It's a shame that not even one of them was released for Atari's 8bit computer. Then i would have been happy about to see at least one of the Robocop games on A8.

I think this topic has been done to death so to speak but still...

Realistic games I'd have liked to see released on ST:-

Monkey Island 2
Flashback
Wings of Fury

Just a few off the top of my head

For ST, probably yes, but not for Atari 8bit?

Then it would have been nice to see any game from Hewson, like Cybernoid, Exolon or similar. Or perhaps any game from Ultimate Play The Game, like Alien 8 or Knightlore. :)

Ocean could have released Batman too, the 3D isometric game for ZX Spectrum. ;)

Perhaps the guys from Polen could manage an Atari 800 version of HALO? ;)

Sure.... it is.
Especially started by Retrogamer_ST who loves 8 bits computers.
But the subject title was "Games that would have been nice to see on Atari" which means everything that Atari does.

Don't we all as retrogamers? ;)

Right now it's Atari 8 bit all the way for me. After some time it's NES, Atari ST, Amiga or Genesis. That's the fun part of retrogaming. :)

Then i would like to see more of Oceans movie games for A8, like Darkman, Total Recall, Addams Family etc.

Ocean would have been great. I would have liked to see some of the Capcom games of the time make it onto the system.

Trojan, Section Z, Gunsmoke, Speed Rumbler, etc. All very cool arcade games back then. Good to see Commando made it eventually.

Some Capcom titles would have been a great addition to the Atari 800 library of games. And perhaps some Atari classics like Marble Madness and Paperboy. Konami released lots of titles that could be great to have on A8 as well like Comic Bakery, Gryzor (contra) and Green Beret for exemple.

Another great conversion of a classic Speccy title.

The Great Escape

I love those Speccy conversions where Knightlore, Nightshade, Alien 8 and Jet Set Willy 2007 are my favourites.

Now, how about a conversion of Pac-Mania for A8.

(right now i'm having a 8 bit period, it's huge fun to be an Atari 8bit maniac for a while) ;)

I think at that time was probably more the issue , sales of games as our XL computer .

It is normal that people would like to see all possible good games on their beloved retro.
But, things are that someone must do it, and for usually is expected for free. Money is certainly not big factor here, as count of interested people is low, so even if go in sale, will not gain much. Main factor here is time needed to do some decent conversion. And it may be thousands of hours.
I think that in most cases main motivation is to learn coding.
Would be good to have/make some overview of started projects and how much is finished from it. It is most likely low, maybe under 50% . Because life changes - self, and plans .

Myself think that it is still good to do come coding on retro. But not regularly, especially not some game. There are Flash, Java remakes, running on all modern platforms, and development goes much faster and easier.
English language is like bad boss on workplace: it expecting from you to strictly follow all, numerous rules, but self bending rules as much likes

A good thing about Atari 8bit is several good conversions of classic games that never were released on A8. There's also lots of completly new games released. Another good thing about A8 is all the construction kit made games like Boulder Dash and Robbo for exemple. Not even that, sometimes someone has created an enhanced version of a certain game like Pac-Man Arcade, Donkey Kong Arcade or Missile Command+ to mention a few. Not even that, some games gets a 4 player mode or a stereo soundtrack emulating double pokey chips. I'm glad to see that so many new games is still released for our beloved 8bit computer från 1979. :)
