Atari 800xl and SIO2SD

Postby jcarvalho » Thu Feb 21, 2013 12:02 am

Hi friends! Need some help with SIO2SD interface. Is there a way to do let the file sio2sd.xex in disk 1 to load every time that the 800xl boots or reboots leting me to browse the card, select a different game and load it??
Every time that I select a game it goes to the D1 slot replacing the sio2sd file forcing me to browse again for it and insert him on D1 slot, its just very annoying procedure :)... when I boot the 800xl it doesnt do any difference pressing the "select" or "start" button or use the "option"+"select" or "option"+"start" on sio2sd menu... dont know what those option are doing on main menu after booting the 800XL

Many thanks for your kind help!

Jorge

PS: Sorry Mods, just posted this on wrong section, can someone move to topic to the correct position?
Thanks,
Jorge

you can leave the D1: slot clear, there is a remove disk button/combo

I don't run any siosd.xex file?

there is a brief manual available

Hi nativ! thanks for the info... In fact the progam is a file browser... What I cant do is leave it always on disk1 of the interface... everytime that i select a game to play, the sio2sd.xex is relpaced for the rom game in order to be loaded... with a sd card full of roms its terrible on every reboot to seek for the sio2sd.xex and place it on the D1 slot to boot and select another game to play... I want to try them all

hmmm

ok,

so one solution, put your sio2sd.xex in a folder and your games in a another? beneath or in the root?

or

Find the guy that wrote sio2sd.xex and see if you can get it to boot from D:2 /3/4/5 rather that D:1 then when it restarts the sio2sd.xex should be where you left it in D:1

Rename it to "_SIO2SD.XEX". This way it always appears first in the list.

At least that will save a lot of time scrolling through to 'S' each time?

I did find some vague information on there being a v2.5 or v3? and something about a firmware update for the SIO2SD device I would believe?

The software update mentioned the ability to change the device ID to 1,2 or 3, but I cannot find any more specific information at the moment!

Dal ! Nice solution :D

this might help..

http://www.santellocco.com/atari/sio2sd.htm#english

ENGLISH
SETUP (firmware v3.1)
Format an SD card (FAT 12, 16 or 32 file system)
Copy into it sio2sdv35.xex that you find into SIO2SD website inside Configurator_3.5.zip and rename it sio2sd.xex
Make a folder named Atari
Put into that folder your ATR or XEX files
Insert SD card into SIO2SD
Turn on computer
On SIO2SD double press SHIFT button (grey button on SIO2SD Micro/PC Combo)
"CFG TOOL mode" will appear on the LCD display
Press K1 button (Drive button on SIO2SD Micro) to enter "cfgtool mode:"
With K2 button (File button on SIO2SD Micro) select "every startup"
Press K3 button (ESC button on SIO2SD Micro)
Press K1 button (Drive button on SIO2SD Micro) to go to "topdrive mode"
With K2 button (File button on SIO2SD Micro) set it to "off"
Turn off computer
Turn on computer
In this way every time you turn on your Atari the on-screen menu will be loaded.
To have SD card files sorted, use DriveSort, a nice Windows application.

ON-SCREEN LOADER INSTRUCTIONS (v3.5)
ARROWS/JOYSTICK select file .xex or disk image .atr
KEYS 1-8 mount selected file/image into drives 1-8
CTRL+T lets you toggle between real drives / virtual drives
ESC climb directory tree
X (long press) restart computer with selected images
RETURN/FIRE enter directory/load file/disk image
While loading programs that don't need Basic, keep pressed OPTION key for a few seconds
When you leave on-screen loader, you can swap disk images from real drives to virtual drives pressing SIO2SD's SHIFT button + K3 button (grey button + Esc button on SIO2SD Micro).

Those are basic instructions only. SIO2SD on-screen loader has many other features.
Moreover, thanks to LCD display and buttons, all those operations can be done without on-screen loader (you can even create disk images).

I programmed the 3.1 version of the firmware. Got the above menu items and configured as described. But, I Atari 800XL can't boot up the 3.5 version of the sio2sd.xex program, so that I can choose *.ATR files. My SD card has the sio2sd.xex file and the "ATARI" folder as root file.

Appreciate any help/tips!

Thanks!
