Software/OS Patching for CT60

Postby 1st1 » Wed Mar 22, 2017 8:51 pm

Hello, I am still waiting for my DIMM memory, but I want to be prepared when it comes, so I want to collect everything what is required on my Falcon to let it run smooth with ct60.

The first thing I know that xcontrol.acc and general.cpx have to be repplaced by 060 fixed version (downloaded from didier, the package has some more cpxes I need)

On rodolphe's side there is a compatibility list. From that I know that I need falcon8.prg to be Calamus compatible. But what to do with it? Place it in auto folder?

mikro wrote:As mentioned on Facebook, make sure you have the 5s delay cache feature disabled. It's set in CT60's CPX.

This was about duke nukem or quake running on ct60. What does that mean for other applications? Can I leave this settig for all applications?

What I need to do else?n NVDI 5 still works? Screenblaster III?

Currently my auto folder has gemram.prg as one of the first programs, and just after it winx to patch TOS in RAM, and some more fixes. I want to keep the patches made by WinX. Can I keep this untouched, or doesn't that work with ct60?

You basically need only one thing -- NVDI. This makes your desktop happy as even TOS4 is using Blitter for some operations.

Apart from that, yes, you shouldn't use the 5s *at all*, I get Didier's intention but enable that as default is just ... crazy. It's a hack, that's all and if an app/game/demo needs this (it's meant for ICE depacker which uses a self-modifying code for depacking), usually it will crash sooner or later anyway.

For MagiC you need the patch from Didier's archive + the patched XBIOS etc in AUTO folder (also present in the archive). Apart from that, can't think of any other troubles, CT60 is one hell of a design, very clean, very compatible.

Archive for 1.03c can be obtained here: https://github.com/mikrosk/ct60tos/releases/tag/1.03c don't forget to replace stuff from Willy's website.

I'm wondering why people are using XCONTROL.... COPS is far more better.

Maybe because COPS needs Wdialog on plain TOS.

And what is the drawback of using WDIALOG (except the memory usage)?

Stability was an issue "back in the day". Might not matter much today since not much work is being done with TOS, just don't forget to disable Wdialog before booting MiNT.

Oh, I didn't know that. I must admit, that I don't use plain TOS too much either. Only when trying to run 030 software only (mainly games/demos, when disabling all extensions is advisable anyway)....
Yes it MUST be disabled when using other AES than the original.

Also Xcontrol is simple, plus you only use the control panel for settings once in a while. It's not something you use constantly.

Is that the patched XBIOS generally a good idea to hve it in the auto folder?

And another question is not answered until now, the thing about romram.prg, romspeed.prg (and similar) and WINX patching?

You don't need to copy TOS to RAM since it's already there with CT60 TOS.

1st1: not really. It's needed only or MagiC, as long as the OS uses underlying (X)BIOS you don't need them (FreeMiNT does that so it's really only about MagiC).

And yes, you can apply WINX and friends directly, CT60 TOS is already in (TT) RAM.

Ah, nice, and that TOS is also not write protected by PMMU or something like that?

One questtion still not answered:

What do I need to do with falcon8.prg and Calamus. How that patch works, and which Calamus version?

No clue, never used Calamus in my life. Have you read the docs (ct60.hyp) ?

Has anyone patched CentVidel and made CentScreen successfully work 800x608/256 on Mint?

I never heard anything about patched CentVidel, and before Super Videl came, I have used Videl Inside without any problems for the mode you require.

Sure there is.
See archive here http://didierm.pagesperso-orange.fr/ct60/index.html and here http://dhs.nu/files.php?t=accelerators
Its not working without it.
We are always talking about using it with CT60(e) and Mint.

OK, I will try Videl Inside instead. Do you know if there is any trick for CT60 and Mint? Is 2.04 the latest version?

OK thanks! Videlity worked perfectly!
I didn't have any problem using Centscreen before CT60e installation, but Videlity seems to be a very good alternative.

Hm...under Mint? Did you patch CentVidel at 50mhz or 40Mhz?
I may give it a second try at some point., thanks!

Here is a copy of the centscreen I use. You have to make sure it is last in the boot order, and configure it in TOS first before booting mint.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
