Alternative to CTCM module prototype

Postby exxos » Sat Sep 03, 2016 9:02 pm

The prototype Falcon clock module.

This is almost like the CTCM but this is programmed with a simple resistor. The one in the image has a fixed resistor and gives about 86MHz.

There is space on the PCB for a multi turn trimmer, so technically its adjustable from something like 60mhz to 160mhz... forgot to order the timmer...

This one *should* work with those fickle CT60s which do not like the CTCM or only work with some manufactures of fixed oscillators.

I had huge problems with CTCM not working right, and my CT60 would only work with 1 brand of 66MHz oscillator and refused to work with any other brands of 66MHz even.

So while the CPU is capable of near 100MHz speeds, I couldn't even get a fixed oscillator of 80MHz, 75MHz, 90MHz to work. Now my little module *should* behave on such falcons...

Finally got the pots in!

Idea really is if height is a issue, then there is a SMT 'space' to put a fixed resistor so the pot isn't needed. For example 10K works out at about 85MHz, so 8K is like 95mhz etc. The pot can be left in place or swapped out for a resistor once the pot value is measured.

If there is enough interest in these I will get a small batch of them done.

I'm interested, I just have to send my CT60 to Rodolphe for repair. I hope it will be OK.

I've put a quick page up on my site about it. If there is interest I will get a few more PCB's made and build up the things. I don't have a price for these yet though. Maybe around £25 mark.

25 PCBs now on order. I've tested it out lots these past weeks testing 060 CPU's out (I have 17 now REV6 tested 95MHz).

The pot gives about 1Mhz step each half turn, so quarter turn is 0.5MHz etc. Generally I would suggest 95MHz should be the upper limit. Though people can experiment as some people claim 110MHz is possible... The pot can be replaced with a fixed SMT resistor if people want to remove the pot and use a fixed SMT resistor instead.

I'm building 25 of these in total. I don't plan on building anymore as interest is so low in them. I *hope* to have them appearing in sometime next month.

I would buy one of these as long as the price is reasonable. My CTCM died a long time ago.

PCB's arrived this weekend. Will try and allocate some time in a weeks time to start building them up :)

Now on sale in my store :)

I am building up a few more, but I don't plan on building up a lot of these.

Got mine today in the mail. For reference I put a SD card next to it. Packaging was superb!

Hope to have some time next weekend to put it in to my CT63 machine and see how it runs on my precious 8)

18 currently left of these in stock if anyone wants to grab one. I doubt I will be making anymore of them as I assume the new CT60e will have something similar built in already.
