MagicNet + Netusbee

Postby Kroll » Fri Jun 17, 2016 9:47 pm

Hi,

I would like ask about configuration and speed of transfer from another PC computer in local net. I have Falcon 060 with Netusbee and Magic with MagicNet. I have to use as a driver ENEC6.MIF, but the speed transfer from PC is very very slow and similar when I use StinG under TOS.

Is it normal ? I can try use another driver ne2kect2.mif or ne2kenec.mif, but with these drivers do not want work.

Regards
Kroll

Yes, I of course use MiNT, but I would like to use Magic too.

So what numbers you're getting on MiNT? You can test it with ftp upload/download from/to ram disk, that way you'll eliminate the possibility of a fault on application layer.

Mainly because the cartridge port is basically read only and needs hacks for data writes and there is no interrupt line so the software driver must poll the data.

Under Mint I get about 80K/s, Sting is 30-40K/s, yes it surely is not a 1Gigabit LAN interface. Numbers are for FTP, most other transfer procols are even slower.

Hi all,

today I made test download files from local PC computers. My system was Falcon on 060 mode with Netusbee.
Under plain TOS + STING with enec3.stx as driver, using aftp or Litchi as ftp client
aftp during download file was showing CPS:
the average speed was about 8 thousand. max was about 16 thousand.

Under Magic with Magicnet (sting was disable) with driver in EXTENXION folder was ENEC3.MIF and speed was very similar like in TOS CPS about : 8 thousand
When I changed and try use ne2kenec.mif or ne2kect2.mif on the screen I have this information:
cannot add route: call for non implemented error meassage (maybe I have to change mag_rc.net or other files in etc folder).
Magicnet I installed according to instructions on page http://hardware.atari.org/manuals/netmagx.htm

Under MiNT with ne2kect2.xif as driver the speed during download file speed was much much faster and CPS showing avarege 140 thousands maximum even about 200 thousand

What do you think about it

Kroll

That FreeMiNT has a superior networking stack. ;-) Seriously, it seems there's very little you can do except sticking with FreeMiNT when copying large amounts. If you omit GEM tools, you can get around 300 KB/s with the command line client without any problem.
