It depends on your hardware.
I already mentioned that I have a laptop that can display at 50hz, with vsync emulation is nearly perfect.

Couple of problems/bugs

Release: Steem Boiler 3.8.1
Configuration doesn't seem to matter. Even a clean new install gives me this, even before opening the main windows :

SteemError.jpg

The other issue is with the boiler. Don't know if it's exactly a bug, but Log->Video doesn't log writes to the SYNC and REZ registers, opening borders, etc, as at least classic Steem used to. Or this is by design for some reason?

On Windows Vista Business edition the DirectX End-User runtime was not installed and Steem displayed the error message missing d3dx9_43.dll. Steem then exits and Windows reports Steem has stopped working.

I had to install the DirectX End User Runtime here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... g=en&id=35
Other links take you to a "Please install Windows 10" page.

D3DX9_43.dll is installed in %WINDIR%\system32
This is an excellent version of Steem with cool STE compatibility.
Still got, still working: Atari 4Mb STe, 520STFM, 2.5Mb STF.
Hardware: Cumana CSA 354, Ultimate Ripper, Blitz Turbo, Synchro Express II (US and UK Versions).

The boiler didn't find HD6301V1ST.img, it is included with the main release, not the boiler.
The best is to include this file in the boiler folder.
BTW, this particular assert has been removed for v3.8.2.

Yes:
Log
----

The log has been neglected in the SSE version. For example, border effects are
not logged. It is recommended to suspend logging (I wonder what machine the
Steem authors had!), or to carefully select your options.

TRACE
------

However an alternative 'Trace' system is used in the SSE version.
You can command the output by selecting log options.
This parallel system was developed because I'm more familiar with it and
I wanted it to work in the 'non-boiler', debug build of Visual C++, in
the IDE output window or a file at choice.
Each time you stop the boiler, the traces are available in the file
'TRACE.txt'.
'Suspend logging' won't suspend the traces. This is commanded by option
'Output TRACE to file'.
For some aspects, it's not as detailed as Steem's original log.

You will have writes to those registers in TRACE.txt if you check Video and IO in the log menu.
But to get GLU/Shifter tricks, you need to open FrameReport.txt, which is a more powerful tool (IMO).

This DLL issue is due to Microsoft and affects other emulators like WinUAE.
You did it the best way (update Windows).
