New EP music-album entirely on the Raspberry Pi :)

Postby yerzmyey » Thu Jan 11, 2018 1:08 pm

Hi guys.

The Raspberry Pi sounds good too. ;)

YERZMYEY - RPi ZWEI

01 RPi Zwei
02 Ursula (part 2)
03 Alien encounter
04 Wake Hime
05 Digital Garbage RPi's Remix

TT: 19:15 min.

This album has been made on Raspberry Pi 2.
Also, it has been recorded entirely & directly from the machine.

The RPi's sound is being generated by the Broadcom BCM2835 chip (for the 1st model of RPi) and by Broadcom BCM2836 chip (in the 2nd model RPi), so it's resolved somewhat like in ZX Spectrum: the sound is being generated by CPU.

They say it works with 11 bit quality. It's not an actual DAC, it is a digital PWM module (gives a 'pulse width modulated' signal) working with frequency around 40MHz and it is low-pass-filtered.
The original Pi sound is warm'n'soft; doesn't remind thousands of razors.

Some people claim RPi isn't good for music.
They are WRONG.

Wow! The RPi sounds a lot better than expected!
And hey, I love your music. RPi Zwei is great! I'm going to spend some time listening to the rest of your work. I'm glad I discovered your pages, lots of fantastic music there!

Oh, thx a lot. I do my best. :)

PS: Interestingly enough, You can actually find on the site a song made entirely on ACE Tracker. :)
The first song of this: https://yerzmyey.bandcamp.com/album/str ... der-my-bed
But in this case I treated the combo "ACE+F030" as a professional synthesizer (which they actually make) and recorded all tracks one-by-one, to get better effect. :)

Hi,

The system for me is always Raspbian, as I'm not good with Linux, so the Raspbian is rather comfortable version for "Windows XP people" like me. ;)

As for the utilities, if You don't mind I will use fragment from another forum -

I use the MilkyTracker editor with the RPi2 computer (and lately also with the RPi 3).
Instruments have to be prepared earlier, on another computer (PC? Mac?) or have to be downloaded from some sample-collections, but entire composing process can be easily done on the RPi.

And again - for the newest Raspbian system in the Raspberry Pi 3 downloading and installing would be like this:
Preferences / Add - Remove Software / now search for "milky" word and install the program.

For the Pi 2 and old Raspbian - there is a problem as those %$#*^%$#* closed the Pi Shop (or however it was called back then, I can't remember now).
My friend from Atari 8bit scene - thePink - says that instead one should use the "apt get" command or something like that.

As for the samples, my favourite portal was the Music Radar:
http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/fre ... tis-627820

I suspect the Milky should also work on The RPi 1 (even if with small number of channels) and I think it must work on RPi Zero too.

And the prog in version of RPi looks like this:

Greetzzzzz!!!!!!! :)
