An Atari ST2 ? cool look, but real?

Postby oehansen » Sun Oct 19, 2014 11:26 am

Ok, I just went on the net and surfed around a bit and then came across this stuff

http://techmash.co.uk/2011/05/30/now-th ... -comeback/

Now, I know about the Commodore 64x, and I can read that the computer described in this issue isn't really an Atari, but more like a PC in an Atari like case, just as is with the Commodore box.

However, I'd have to say ... the case looks cool as hell ... why didn't we think of this for the Firebee? if the Firebee looked like that ... damn!

No, as far as I know it isn't real. Just a cool looking concept. Can you imagine how cool an ST compatible, modern and TOS/GEM machine would be? 8)

To me it looks too much like an Amiga. So no!

Given that Jack Tramiel was behind both the ST and Commodore, the look in question is both the Commodore 128, as well as Atari ST series. So, that they look somewhat alike ... is not at all unreasonable. But it's not enough reason to throw away the idea ... a good idea, is still a good idea ... that it's looks like an Amiga, because Amiga was a Commodore thing, and so was Tramiel, is just nuts.

Damn, site wasn't up ... so two posts ... sorry.

If you are referring to the keyboard ... than thats not an issue, as any keyboard changes would look neither Amiga nor Atari. As they'd become USB in nature ... so that's not the issue. The look is cool ... and any retro computer looking like that, would be HOT

Simply, the air vents are at a lower level than the end of the keyboard. This reminds me of the C128/Amiga design and I find it aesthetically displeasing. Plus the c128 was released long after Tramiel left commodore.

There are several problems with this design.

  1. It's black. How creative...
  2. It has a PC keyboard. Seriously, an ST with no HELP and UNDO keys, but with useless Pause/Scroll Lock/Print Scr keys? What's that? Oh, and the Control key is in the wrong place.
  3. It's a PC.

Basically it's a poor design with absolutely no new or distinct features. It's just a bulky, black PS/2 keyboard.

I think it looks great, as a piece of concept art. Very slick. Given that it is designed as a PC case, its practical use is kind of meh.

I still think a keyboard case would be nice ... But perhaps that case is a bit heavy

I like something like TT case more. In this thread you can see what I have done so far. viewtopic.php?f=92&t=25112

It is done to this stage. For more I would need a help.
And if you print it by yourself you can print it the colour you wand. I would print it flack for myself :)

vido's design is really nice. I'd like to see a vertical version, that would save a lot of desktop space.
