Here are some STOS games from my collection that I've fixed to work with TOS 2.06. The process involved unpacking the programs and running a STOS patching tool, and then repacking them using the very excellent UPX packer.

I did this because I'm about to get an upgraded STE with TOS 2.06, and I wanted to play these on my machine. I posted them here because I thought some of you guys might like to try these on your machines too. :)

All are HD installable - just copy over the files to your HD.

Hi, it would be nice if you could post the programs you used to patch games.
I am like you i have a 1040STE with a TOS 2.06.
For the moment i am using floppies only.

Do you think the TOS 2.06 patch can be done using floppies only?

The .ZIP file below contains three STOS Fixer tools. It's been a long while since I did anything like this, so I'm afraid you're on your own.

However, the general rules are:

1) Put the above, plus some depacking tools onto 1 disk. Put on your favourite packer too (ie. UPX)
2) Copy the main STOS coded .PRG file onto a blank disk.
3) Launch the depacker and depack the .PRG - most of them were packed due to the sizes of compiled STOS programs.
4) Save off the depacked version to the same disk (if there's space) or overwrite the .PRG (your choice).
5) Run whichever of the three patcher tools are the most up-to-date. They all have text files.
6) On a backup of the game disk you're trying to patch, copy the patched PRG over the original. If there's no room due to the unpacked size, then pack it with UPX first.
7) Reboot backup disk and see if it works. If it does, then this will be your new master copy.

Rinse and repeat :)

Hi, Mug and thanks for your hand.

I've found how to extract the prg file from a floopy.
I've been trying but i can't patch the prg file.

1) I really don't know which unpacker should work, i tried several none is working.
It says that the file is probably not packed or can't be unpacked?

2) when i try to fix the prg file, it says it's not a STOS File, ie with genfix (which seems to be the most complete program).

What's the name of the game you're trying to patch.

Is it online so that I can download it and have a look myself?

Good evening, and thank you.

I just saw you moved the topic, thanks.

I tried several games, for example BAAL, this version:

http://www.planetemu.net/rom/atari-st-games-st/baal-1988-psygnosis-cr-stcs-t

>> Well known french website for roms.
You just have to click on "Télécharger", (Download) button to get the ST image.

This Game works perfectly on my 520 STE TOS 1.62 FR (4Mb)
It crashes just before starting the game on my 1040 STE TOS 2.06 FR (2MB).

I have several games to fix for all TOS since i have several ST's with TOS 1.02, 1.62, 2.06.

Baal isn't written in STOS which is why you can't patch it.

Perhaps it's a stupid question, but how do you recognize a stos program?

I have tried other games and i can't patch them also, or unpack the prg.

Am i doing right?

I just loaded a STOS program into a text editor and it says

"stos basic compiler V 1.0 by Francois Lionet" in the mix of all the garbage. I assume they all say that.
