List of non-STe compatible games???

Postby STcomp » Fri Aug 15, 2008 7:30 pm

Does anyone here have a list of non-STe compatible games? I would really appreciate it. I just got rid of my last normal ST and all I have left is 2 STe computers. I would really love to save the time of testing hundreds of games to find out which ones will not run on my STe. So far I have noticed that Populous, Risky Woods, Bully's Sporting Darts, Super Space Invaders, and Resolution 101 do not seem to like either of my STe's even though they all ran fine on my 1040st.

Hi,

Never had problems with:-
Super Space Invaders (2 Disk (Pitfighter Pack))
Resolution 101

520 Ste or 1040 Ste.

Games that don't work :-
Flying Shark
Mig 29
Falcon

You might find that some have been STe fixed already via Pirate editions or later releases.

Thanks

Ashley

Quite a few games when released on budget labels were patched to work on an STE if they didn't before-hand. Then again, some firms were too lazy and even the Hit Squad release of Daley Thompson's game was still not STE compliant.

Is there a list of games that were later fixed on pirated versions to work on STe, or games that initially did not work on an STe, but were fixed in a commercial re-release (such as a budget release-second printing etc.) to work on STe?

Partially yes, here are some fixed by me: http://www.ppest.org/atari/fromhd.php
I did not test with TOS 1.06/1.62 . Only on STE and Mega STE, both with TOS 2.06 . Adaptations may run from floppies too, except few, which fits not on 1 disk.

Btw. TOS version is also relevant. In many cases problem is not STE, but incompability with TOS 2.06 .
As I see, re-releases for newer Atari machines are very rare. One is Knight of the Sky - later version is TOS 2.06 compat, and hard disk runnable.

I can see a Wiki-thread being created when this is updated past a few titles. Daley Thompson's Decathlon was always STE incompatible, even in the budget version.

It is not enough to say 'not works on STE' (or works). Need to mention TOS version too .

I hope that we will have soon here some lists of incompatility - games with platforms , TOS versions. What is patched for what etc...

We need to sort out a decent (Excel-based) list that can be exported to the Wiki - I'd separate it into the non-STE, non-HD, non-TOS v2.06 type problems. It's a bonus if the game works on a Mega STE/TT/Falcon without patching etc.

I've created a holding page in the Wiki for now.

I'm on to making MySQL database on my site. It will be interactive, so visitors can add new entries, comments.

MySQL is easy to convert to Excel format. What concrete database format is uasble in WIKI ?

The power pack games should have worked on the STE as they bundled with it as part of the full machine when bought - so they probably got patched by the original developers etc.

The original releases however, probably aren't. A PASTI of both original and Power Pack version would confirm this.

Ah .. might have my wires crossed as there have been several different lineups of the 'Powerpack' with the different bundle deals that Atari UK released.

There is a thread on here somewhere which attempts to list all the different ones:

the pack that came with the STE was the same one that came with the STFM, but Silica threw in quite a few boxes of other games, and I'm afraid to say a lot of them didn't work on the STE (Eg, Silent Service, and Gunship).

I've got a few of the disks that came with the Powerpack, so I'll dig them out and see which ones I've got.

Hi,
Power Pack Disk H
Predator!
Didn't appear to work first time. . . . . .
Second time I made sure 'space' was pressed after the animation and it loaded and played fine. I'm sure it's rolled fine before.

-----edit-
This has similarities to the IK+ on STe, which crashes if you don't select to start.

Thanks

Here is how I plan the compability table.

There is a lot of entries, but I think that we need to cover all possible situations.

What may go into table?

1. Game is incompatible with some machine, TOS version, RAM size.
Then must fill 3rd column.

2. Informations about possibility to run from hard disk
Column 5

3. Informations about solved incompability
Column 6

Must fill Game title, Submitter, date. It is very useful to fill source - there may go 'original' , Menu disk ID or DL location. Main locations may be entered in short form, then will be some system to link on them.
Of course more details, notes about issues are very welcome...

Looks good to me .. maybe a link to AL database in the last column and we can sort out a link back to your database?

Good idea. Will be added.
Btw. as I see not much option works there (AL) . I'm logged, and when click on 'Screenshot available', 'Music available' or 'more options' nothing happens. ???

Muggy, the Powerpack was STFM, There were two versions of the Discovery Pack, one for FM and Discovery Extra for STE.

There were a few games which didn't work on a 512K/1MB STE from the powerpack or didn't copy :-)

Here is an earlier thread on the packs themself:-

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13352&start=15

Space Harrier
Afterburner
Predator
Eliminator, Nebulus, Pac-Mania (1 Disk) Worked on STE
Double Dragon Worked on STE
Starglider, Overlander, Super Huey (1 Disk)
Gauntlet II
Super Hang-On Worked on STE
Star Ray, Star Goose (1 Disk)
Bombuzal, Bomb Jack, Xenon (1 Disk)
Black Lamp, Out Run (1 Disk)
R-Type
('< o o o o |''| STM,2xSTFM,2xSTE+HD,C-Lab Falcon MK2+HD,Satandisk,Ultrasatandisk,Ethernat.

Napoleon I: The Campaigns 1805-1814 - big sticker on box says 'not STE compatible' - mostly because it was written in STOS. Which, by chance, probably means the early Fun School series would also not work due to them being coded in STOS.
