3D Animation Programs

Postby vizfizz » Tue Jul 24, 2012 5:33 am

Hi Everyone,

I've been getting some help from the "introduce yourself" thread regarding my desire to find any potential 3D animation applications that may exist for the ST/TT/Falcon line. I used to own an ST, and it was instrumental in getting me into the vfx industry. However I switched over to Macs and PCs in the early nineties and never really got to see how the Atari line eventually played out. I always kept my eye on the TT and Falcon and so forth, but never used anything past CAD 3D 2.0. So I just purchased a Falcon which I'm upgrading and wanted to find some potential retro 3d applications to create some new Atari based art.

Here's the list of software I'm now aware of:

CAD 3D 2.0 & Cyber Family (I used the entire Cyber family when I used my ST)
GFA Raytrace
NeoN Graphix
POV Raytrace
Eureka
Chronos
EB-Model
Xenomorph2
InShape
RayStart
Phase IV
Prism Render
Scape

Are there any other here I'm missing?

My next question: Where can I find them? Obviously if they're still active and require purchasing, I'm open to that. But if they're defunct, can someone point me in the right direction? I've read that NeoN is dongle protected. Is that still the case?

I'd be happy to help contribute to that effort... particularly on the 3D side.

I don't know of any other program than the ones you mentioned. I think inshape 3 is the latest version of a 3d program for the falcon and I've also heard good words about Neon.

Just to say I'm looking forward to anything you might want to make.

You can join this thread viewtopic.php?f=14&t=16525 to add your tools on this website : https://sites.google.com/site/stessential/.
It's more interesting to concentrate all utilities in a same place ?

I found that site too.. and downloaded as much materials as I could. All in french of course. I fired off an email and haven't received a response from them. So I don't know if the site is still active or not. Perhaps someone who is french speaking could check to see if they're still alive? InShape appears to be fairly complete as an application and could be a good match with everything else.

I've also found this site which has been good for filling me in on what's available. Some links provide demos. Some are just descriptions.

Got word back from the InShape team. Seems that they're up to version 3 now.

Here's the email.

Hello

Sorry for this response in approximative english.

InShape 3 is a Gem program with graphic interface and it will work on all atari
(Atari ST too), but it's better to use it on Atari TT (or high power
processeur compatible TOS and Gem).

But you can use it also on Mac or PC with MagicMac, MagicPc or Aranym for
example.

The current price is 30 euros.

Only French version for Interface grahic software and word documentation.

Look the web site of InShape 3 :
http://inshape.lutece.net/

You can loading a demo version at :
http://inshape.lutece.net/demo.html

You can loadinbg the french documentation (word .doc format) on :
http://inshape.lutece.net/pro.html
(clic on "Télécharger" at the end on the page in the section "Télécharger la
documentation").

Other info about InShape 3 on :
http://inshape.lutece.net/interfac.html

Good lookink

I've got Master CAD by MichTron complete with box, disks and manuals etc.

I posted about this in 2011 when I first got it and further down the page, I uploaded the program disks.

Hi Everyone,

I started this thread back in 2012 with the intent to use Atari hardware and Atari 3d software to create an animation project showcasing these programs. My desire was to try and stretch the Atari as far as I could with these programs as a sort of tribute. It was ST that got me interested in animation in the first place. Well life has a way of getting in the way. Unfortunately I fell Ill and had to have heart surgery and my STEs and Falcon sat in limbo. 4 years later and I'm finally in a place where I would like to attempt this again.

If anyone has access, or are willing to share, old 3D applications for the ST, STE and Falcon, please let me know where I can find them. I'm looking for programs like InShape, NeoN Graphix, POV Ray 2.2 or 3.0, GFA Raytrace, all the CAD 3D cyber studio stuff, or any of the other programs I listed above in the initial thread. I'm willing to pay for programs still being sold is that's necessary.

I'm also looking for an FPU for my Falcon, Mega STE and would even be interested in picking up a TT for the computational capabilities. I suppose I could render frames on an emulator, but that will be my last choice.

Thanks everyone...

I am slightly late to this topic, but why not reply anyway :). I also got started with 3D on my ST. Used a lot of the Cyber Family software back in the days. So I might have some stuff of interest for you in my disk box. I am currently in the process of transferring my old disks, but its taking a lot of time and is not without technical problems. So I will have a look at what I can get working and reply to this thread... and it will take some time, but don't be afraid of reminding me! :)
