Art and Film Director

Postby larrykoubiak » Tue Mar 02, 2010 3:30 pm

Hi there fellows.

I recently got in contact with Maurice Molyneaux. He was the art director for Breach 2, Universe 3, Paladin...
The reason he contacted me was that i had posted a simple video of the demo animation that came with the Film Director package of Epyx. He was also the art director for the Art and Director package and made all the demo animations that were included.

Long story short, he asked me if i had still the disks, or a copy of them he could use in an emulator. Turns out he still has some of the work he did with those applications. I had some copies taken from the TOSEC collection of Atari-ST roms, but it turns out that they are incomplete, they are missing some of the sample material (we both remembered there was a "Birth of Venus" Boticelli pic there for instance)that came with them and even some vital files.

Therefore here is my request : if anyone still has those disks and/or good copies, please let me or even better, let him know. You can send him a message on youtube (that's the only contact i have). On his youtube profile you can check one of the original animations he did back then : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrqcawTaWqg. Looks pretty cool :)

Thanks in advance,

Larry

I think I've still got an original copy of Art / Film Director on the shelves. Will look later on.
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

It wasn't where it *should* be (along with all the other apps) but my spreadsheet says I own it so will have a look on the other shelves and inside the large plastic tubs :)

Thanks for the links Hans.

Unfortunately those are the same rom images i have, they are taken from the TOSEC collection and i'm afraid their rip is not complete.
They lack several files that i know came with the package, that's why i was looking for somebody who still had the originals.

Hope i'm not a pain in the ass :?

The concept demo of the Star Trek game is pretty impressive, and looks quite doable on the ST (albeit minus all the sampled sound ;)).

Here's the MSA files from my original disks.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Hey all. Larry told me he found the Art Director disc via this board, and so I thought I'd pop in and say thanks. What I'm trying to do is reconstruct the promotional video I was hired to do for the Epyx release of Art & FIlm Director, and, while I've managed to reconstruct almost 10 minutes of the video, I was missing some of the still images that appear during a demonstration of the Art Director features.

Some of those images are on the disc images that MugUK provided (grazie!), but I'm still missing some...which I suspect where on the 2nd disc of the Epyx release. If anyone's got that, I'd love to get my virtual hands on it.

Just to clarify, I wasn't the Art Director on Art Director. I used Art & Film Director products to make the Star Trek game demo, and when Broderbund's people saw it, they asked if I could do something like that to promote Art & Film Director, which they planned to publish.I was contracted for this purpose, and then Broderbund dropped the project and Epyx picked it up, I was retained to finish the video, with changes, for Epyx.

In addition to the video, I consulted on the manual and did most of the demo animations on the Epyx Film Director disc 1 (not the "Boy"). I don't recall what was on disc 2. I think there was a disc 2!

Anyway, as soon as I finish the complete reconstruction I'll post the video on YouTube and link to it here.

Thanks again.

Maurice

P.S. I recently posted some older animation there...this stuff predating the Star Trek demo, having been http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69ghJXJR5zk done with MovieMaker on the 8-bits.

Glad I could help somewhere towards the goal. I think I know someone with the original of Film Director but they're not on here so will mention this elsewhere and see if they can dig their copy out.

I'm sure I've seen Art / Film Director occasionally popping up on eBay in the US (but it was a while ago when I used to look on there).
