Projekt Amiga "ElGato" Demo for ST

Postby blinddarm » Sun Aug 23, 2009 2:50 pm

Hi there,

..not sure if this is the right section for this.
I need some help for creating a little demo, kwown
from the Amiga Scene, the "El Gato" Demo from Blair-Sullivan (walking, spinning Cat).
This Demo was the VERY FIRST, i ever seen in my Life.
It was a little Dream for many years to convert this little nice Demo for the Atari ST.
Ok, some of you might think:
"What for ?, there are other good Demos out there."

But i think, it is still a great Animation and looks very amazing.
So i started this little Project and hope someone can help me.

Now, i want to show the first result.

Programs and File i used are:
-the original Amiga ANIM File,
-Deluxe Paint III on the WINUAE Amiga Emulator,
-IFF Converter & Deluxe Paint ST on my real Atari ST.

First, i converted the ANIM File to IFF by using Deluxe Paint III (Amiga)
and removed the original Text.
Next Step, i used the "IFF Converter", a small Program that comes with the Deluxe Paint ST.
Then i started Deluxe Paint ST and load the converted file and there it was,
the walking Cat on my STe :)

Normally i should be satisfied but then i saw the Error at the first frame,
there are two big black bars. And when i took a closer look then i saw
that first 11 Frames are with Errors on the top. Then i had an Idea to delete
the buggy frames and replace them by using the frames 48-58 and flip them (mirror).
But the problem is, i dont know how to do this with Deluxe Paint ST.
Another little Problem is, the Animation is a bit slower on plain ST than Amiga.
Also i tested the File on Steem and Changed the CPU Speed to 10Mhz,
now the Animation runs fine.
May be the Deluxe Paint ST is a bit slow or the Main Power of a plain ST(e) is to low.

I i will add some new Text for the Animation, like this:

"El Gato Demo-Original by Blair/Sullivan"
"converted by Blinddarm and *and your Name* in 2009"
"for XXX.Atari-Forum.com"

At Last, is it possible to make a "standalone" PRG or TOS File?
May be we can add some cool Chipmusic.

Please help me to find a Solution.

I have uploaded these Files,

* ElGato.ANIM - the Original Amiga Anim File
* Amigacat.IFF - the converted IFF File with the removed Text
* Ataricat.IFF - the converted Atari IFF File (with Errors)
packed in a RAR Archive

Cheers,
Norman

No Ideas?

Hm, is there another Program that can handle animated IFF Files?

Thanx....

Try this one which is an AUTO loading IFF animation player by Martin Packer (~1992)

My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

Hi all,

Back from Holliday...
thanks MugUK, Player works fine :)
I found i way to fix the Graphic errors..
Animation now runs fine ;)

"IFF_PLAY.PRG" and "VIEW.PRG" (from DPaint) are included in the Disk Image.

If you are using VIEW.PRG the File is running faster / more smooth than IFF_PLAY
but yo have to press "4" to start the Animation.

Anyway....get it and have fun :)
