A way to save colour cycling pics as gif?

Postby Retrogamer_ST » Thu Jan 26, 2012 12:42 pm

I have plenty of pics using colour cycling. Is there a way to save those pictures as an animated gif? Some app that reads the colour cycling information in the picture file and saves it as an animated gif?

Plenty? Would you care to share them?

AFAIK there is no program that does the job. When I created this:
http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=18461&p=158939&hilit=neochrome#p158939 I did it the hard way. Create a separate GIF for every frame and glue them together with unfreez to make animated gifs. I thought it was to much work to write a program that does the trick.

I have found a better way, i think.

Use the Stew emulator v1.0
http://www.zophar.net/atarist/stew.html

Then choose options and the tab "Screen"

I looks like this (click for bigger picture)

Image

Then choose "Only capture when display changes" and "Record animation"

You will get the frames as PCX

Use XnView to convert them to any other format
http://www.xnview.com/

Then use Photoscape or similar app to make animated gif of your frames

I have at least a gigabyte or more of animated gifs and screenshot collages that i have created in about three years time. I either make animated gifs or small collages of all screenshots that i found on the net and create myself. I have screenshots for just about any system, and plenty of it. Both art and from games.

I use Photoscape and XnView to create most of them. I have fixed contrast and colours to make them look as good as possible. When i get access to my brothers 100 Mbit connection i will upload plenty of screenshots for downloading. But i have some sorting to do before i can upload my entire collection.

My suggestion is to run the color cycling images on a Atari emulator, export the frames with its capture function and then create animated GIFs with an image editor of your choice.

I am also highly interested in your Color Cycling pictures. It would really be great if you could share them.
For the Atari ST Animations page I am looking for amazing Color Cycling images and animations.

If you browse the site you may already find a couple of Atari Color Cycling images:
