aranym and TTF fonts

Postby nagual » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:11 am

I need a help to solve a problem...

I'm using Aranym 1.0.2, TOS 4.04 and FVDi.
Also, I installed MagiC 6.10 with Jinnee 2.5

Everything working fine.

My question is:

How can I use TTF fonts via FVDI?
With TOS and MagiC ?

If I put on FVDI.SYS:

fonts=C:\gemsys\ttf
Fontcache 1024
antialias

Aranym crashes and I'm back to default resolution.
I try with 10 TTF fonts, so number of TTF fonts can't be a problem...

Any help or idea will be more than welcome :-)

Regards !

Yes I am :-)

On one hand, FVDI, NVDI, SpeedoGDOS manage correctly TTF fonts, so we'll find a solution, on the other configuration can be tricky, based on the system you use.

First thing that I will check, is to verify if your TTF fonts are corrupted or not? Many free TTF fonts on the net are know to give problems. Windows, Mac, Linux TTF font packs work perfectly. If you want to go GNU : http://www.gnu.org/software/freefont/

As far as your system is concerned, do you use NVDI?
If it's the case, TTF fonts must be managed by NVDI and not FVDI. Activating TTF in FVDI will crash the system. NVDI also needs some tweaks (deactivate all screen drivers in C:/GEMSYS) Basically FVDI will deal with the screen VDI side and NVDI will deal with the printer and font side

If you use only FVDI, your fvdi.sys config file should be a least like that :

Code: Select all

# fVDI configuration

cookie nvdi=$0501
cookie speedo
vqgdos _FSM
PATH = C:\GEMSYS
#palette c:\nvdi5.pal
width -95
height -95
booted
fonts = c:\GEMSYS\TTF
filecache 1024
antialias
01r aranym.sys mode 800x608x32@72
s MONACO08.FNT
s MONACO09.FNT
s MONACO10.FNT
s MONACO20.FNT
.

Finally, I don't know if Magic can work without NVDI. I have never tested, but ASH apps generally like to work together.
My setup is aranym + TOS 4.04 + Magic 6 + NVDI 5 + Videl Inside : it works perfectly at any resolution in 256c (ex : 1920x1200x8), TC works only up to 800x600 if I remember well and in TV mode, and it's highly compatible (Calamus, Photoline ..).
Your setup should be a bit faster and allows any resolutions @32bits with anti aliasing, but is less compatible.
Difficult choice.

Hi Philippe and thank You for Your answer!

I check my TTF fonts, actually, they are from Windows distribution, and they are OK:-)
I'm not using NVDI (so far):-)
I want it, but I found many examples on net NVDI NOT working good with Aranym, so I quit.
I'm gonna to install now and merge Your config file to my , so will see:-)

If I understand well, You use TOS 4.04 + Magic 6 + NVDI 5 + Videl Inside ?
Did You mean Videl software (Videlity)?
Or something else?

And you're using NVDI, is it possible to show me Your config file?
How can I deactivate NVDI screen driver?
Because I don't know which one is NVDI screen driver....

My configuration is like Yours, except I'm using Jinnee 2.5.
I don't need more then 16 colors, because of pallete problems with some apps I use every day (Phoenix Designer and Manager).

So, I'm gonna try now include your config file to my:-)
I'll let You know what is result:-)

With best regards!

Thank You very much for Your support:-))
