GFA Basic Simulator Needed

Postby alchitwn78 » Tue Jan 29, 2019 7:45 pm

Hi All,
just joined the forum. I owned couple Atari computers in 80s (STf and Mega Atari). Back in 1990 i did my electric engineering theses on Atari Mega ST using Signum word processor. Part of the thesis was a software program written in GFA Basic. Mega ST was based on 32/16 Motorola MC68000 processor. I do have source code printed on a paper :) and just got desire to resurrect the program if there is a way to get GFA Basic or equivalent simulator i could use. The program calls routines in GEM to use drop down menus, dialog boxes and to use mouse so i think i need whole TOS/GEM simulator in addition to be able to compile and runGFA Basic.

I am reaching out hoping somebody would have guidance for Atari ST/GFA Basic simulator so i can rescue and run this program again for old time sake.. Call me sentimental, but would love to do it anyway :D 8)

Thanks,
Alex

I guess your best choice is to use ARAnyM as an emulator with a MiNT setup, and Lonny's excellent GFA-Basic Editor

If your old code requires original ST resolutions I suggest Hatari and original gfabasic.

or...

You might consider porting your old project to PC?

and the unofficial homepage for the ST version

seems you have a lot of optins here...

For Linux there is X11 Basic which claims to be mostly compatible. Maybe your program works with that?

Otherwise just install a suitable emulator.

I never tried, but i would be surprised if X11-Basic emulates GEM system calls ;)

It has support for some, I never looked too deep into it. Basic ALERT, FILESELECT and graphics commands are available.
