here is a multi eprom flash programmer quite cheep to make
there is three versions of this one for different levels needed
you only need make the version 2 to get a chip done
but the v3 is just as easy on vero board

as an eraser go to the local maplin and buy a uv bank note tester £4.50
and use this is a dark corner box with the chip taped to it for 20 - 30 mins maybe 16 chips at once easy can be done
then blank test it if its ok flash it

as a tip all eproms in sockets and other chips like 68000 etc etc
can have a loop of tape carefully folded
into pull tapes attached to it
saves heeps of bent pins etc

if you get bent pins on any mos chip or cmos or porcessors like intel and motorola

use a plastic straw {small diameter one}
to straighten them NOT !! your finger nails

ye

looks a realy simple project just some veroboard
ic sockets and a few components maybe 20 or so to solder in

you can build one very easily on vero board

i dont mind to make up a nice cad layout for the version 2 model of this project

i have an app called lochmaster 3 a stripboard cad
yields parts lists and layouts for front back and cut-track positions

would prob take me about 1hr to finish it

looking at its circuit is uses just two cmos chips and basicaly an old scanner or printer lpt cable

the version2 is nice becouse it covers many devices needed in these machines

Can someone tell me what sort of (ee)prom is needed for burning TOS on? And are they easy to get?

Also, are there any pre-patched TOS files
(i.e. a home-made TOS 1.07 / 1.63)?
Or is that what the likes of

SuperTOS, KaosTOS and MultiTOS are?

Cheers,

Steve.

its down to the size of eprom you want to use

if you use a 1mb eprom the chip has a specific code id on its top
{see the lexicon on the schematics for your machine to see how to set the jumpers for different crc {size} of eeprom}

there exists easliy many tos upgrades
by far the best is to make a multi image for each 1mb chip {if you use ste or above or some very late fm's}
earlier ones can be modded to use just two chips also

adding four 256k blocks to the chips 1mb memory
and switching the blocks read point

so as to switch to the tos you want is popular

i will get around to making blocks as per peoples requirements
as a full set of dumps becomes avalible

however i am busy just now with comvdd my project for
simulator i/o systems called sios
an off shoot of the mios midi controller system by thorsten Klose

the software in the above posts {links please read the post}

gives access to adding roms together

its for atari 800 etc but it can be used
to splice atari tos versions together easily and saved to a single file
for burning

be carefull to try to find 'rom dumps' for each tos
or a multitos dump

perhaps someone can send me one please with detail

rather than the tos files you find around the net

very often they are doctored to fit in one simulator or another

post a request if you need a dump

ill collect all actual dumps and make an archive of them all

please post here all dumps of tos roms

ill move the ones i find in the main section over

as well as adding to a full archive within yahoo geocities

i will continue to maintain as part of my own sites anyway

i have also 150MB of free net space {8MB bandwidth no transfer limits}

so if someone wants to start a site for purly hardware
bits gals, programs, eproms, manuals , service stuff
pic mcu addins to atari etc...

or other projects

there is no reason a multipage site cant be located here

let me know by pm if you fancy it

:D

you can pm actual dumps of eproms to me
ill make a list below in a post of what's already there...

some of the ftps have dumping software you can grab

there is also many links in topics here to such tools

but nowhere is a full collection in one place

with a tool to splice and make multitos type images

talking about multitos maybe some images of this is also needed

please label / mark/ readme all archives of eprom dumps

computer type / region / tos version / rom number etc....

and ill corelate

original firmware only please
so if you upgraded the tos
dont send it

check

an ste would have tos 1.62 etc

i have

uk tos 1.62 ste for definate

i want real dumps only new ones...!!!

i dont trust images of single tos version

some have been found to be corrupt

it takes roughtly five minutes to do it

and another 5 mins to zip and upload

maybe someone can sudjest a dump app to use
that works on any atari computer

simbo

nice eprom programming tool for atari cartridge port

Postby simbo » Thu Jan 05, 2006 5:03 am

http://www.techdose.com/projects/Atari_Eprom/

check this out

maybe we can remake this for the ste easily

ill try and wish myself

good luck

:D

8) if someone wants to help with the software
i can have time and make the firmware
thinking along the lines of using c code
using sdcc compiler or asm mplab and
a pic micro probably a pic16F84A
is powerfull enought or a later
pic18 i have a few mcu and firmwares spare to use..
all the tools and gear
seems a shame i am board these days {pun intended}

i know how to do the software but dont have time for both
pm me if you like

http://perso.wanadoo.fr/didierm/

here is one from france works with st series ...
but the software isnt so good
and the hardware design needs updated
to add rom loading on the fly etc

and cartridge tools dongle etc programming
to make them workable in pic land and icp
{in circuit programming on the fly}

gal programming is also easily possible
even direct pic programming from atari
i have seen a few programs
and tools already made in atari land for pic
and a good programmer that has girth is needed badly

Hi ALL

attached is an eprom tool for a programmer avalible on the net

however a usefull tool for saving off tos images

the even rom is second the odd ram first

so making a multiple tos image is then a matter of breaking a tos into 2 for each tos called odd and even then load each one and splice them together

this tool runs in dos also

a usefull thing

it will complain it has no coms when you start it but fully functions
ill make up a set of odd and even roms images and also a set of multitos images {bank switched design}

do this in a root of a drive make a folder called RM and place these files there and your up to 4 tos versions

and another utils.zip

this one has separate utils for splitting files and joining them
and has no complaints
i recon a mix of both is best

GALS PROGRAMMER SIMPLE DIY TYPE

Postby simbo » Tue Jan 17, 2006 11:15 pm

http://elm-chan.org/works/pgal/report_e.html

here is a simple one to make
just buy a cheep socket for the square outline types and connect some wires to it and a plug

again i can make this programmer up using a cad program
into a vero board based project layed out and ready to cut some tracks add the bits and build

full colour

i use lochmaster a german tool highly excelent and worth buying

ill add parts lists layouts and design files
outputs from this cad in .gif and html / txt files

to print and get the bits...

if people want such a thing put a post below
and ill spend a few hrs to make it so...

I posted two Tos 3.06 Uk images split up ready for burning to rom for the TT 030 sometime ago here.
http://www.zhell.co.uk/ttpage.html
They are for either 1 meg roms or 2 meg roms, the number of file relates to the position that the rom fits onto the board.
I found that the TT would not reconise UV roms (although it came with 4 in German Tos)and used flash roms instead, but they can of course be burnt to a UV rom if you wish as long as you tell your burner software what chip you are burning to.
I use the Willem programmer, and has never failed me

Hello!

And does anybody know what speed
(nanoseconds) these TOS EPROMs may
have?

I will be asking something similar in
another post, but for EPROMs in a
cartridge...

Not sure about the speed... I think 200ns or faster if I remember right.

Now another question... I'm using 27c256's for the 6-chip version... what do I need for the 2 chip version? 27C1001 or something?

I found that the TT would not reconise UV roms (although it came with 4 in German Tos)

It is interesting, I put standard UV EPROMs to severals TTs without problem. I use Junior Prommer with Pinatubo sw.

BTW it was not listed here. The best site for ROM files which I know is Pangaelin Willow, there is nearly everything
